Id call Xenoblade Chronicles turn based too.

I´m ok with that. In certain games both styles may merge, like in Tales of Symphonia.

Did you have the opportunity to play Xenobalde Chronicles X  too? How would you label its gameplay?

I'm going with turnbased, was always my favorite style

Slightly less turn based-ish than XC was... that one is abit harder to place.

Depends on the game and what mood I'm in, but at the moment, I've been playing FE Fates, DQ IX, and Pokemon Moon so Turn based it is:p

I enjoyed both, but honestly classic turn based RPG appeals to me the most.

Indeed, the answer best seems to be neither. Both of them are great and are enjoyed, though perhaps action oriented is currently the more favorable one.

Ever since consoles became power enough for action? So you mean 1983 right? First JRPGs were action and the First western RPGs were turn based. Hell some modern ones are like Dragon Age Origins is turn based with the combat being timing and stat based with your swing timer. Xenoblade series is turn based(often confused for ARPG but it's not) Ys is on Famicom and SEGA Master System. Mana on SNES and Oasis on Genesis. We have had ARPGs on consoles for over 30 years. It's not a power thing at all. In fact about every JRPG until Dragon Quest was action based. WRPGs were turn based until maybe early 90s.

I don't care either way. Problem is many games do action wrong. FFXV the most modern has a mess of a combat system. Trying to be stylized combat without understanding how to make a action game. About everything relies on a single button so it has cool animations but none of the depth to make a good ARPG system.

Somewhere between the two is typically ideal.
I say FFX did this best, followed by Chrono Trigger.

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

depends, for an small budget production like child of light it's absolutely ok to use turn based mechanics but a major AAA game like ffxv should use a more advanced form gameplay.
