So half the consoles cost is crap i dont want or need, awesome.

Thats the point buddy we want decent hardware and not be paying for things we dont want.

Agreed 101% man. And I have nothing against Nintendo, I have huge respect for their IPs and overall quality.

you preaching to the devil bra.  i actully got sucred into a wiiu (bows head in shame).

Played 4 efin games on it, NOT making that mistake agian.  Not at north of 300 dollars.  Plus 200ish on the few games of interest.

Its relevant, because you can't compare official price and unofficial, we dont know at what prices and deals Switch will sell next holiday season, thats why  you can only compare only ofical prices, not deals on one side and ofical price on other side.

My point was that if a PS4, which is a vastly more powerful console, can be sold at 200$ (and obviously not at a loss or at least a small loss) a bare-bones switch should not cost more than 150$.

PS2/GC were last gen consoles when PS3/Xbox360/Wii arrived.

Wii U is same generation like PS4/XB1, not in same generation like PS3/Xbox360.

You missing point, point is that PS4/XB1 are still this gen consoles same like improved versions of them, Pro/Scorpio.

Switch coming at half of XB1/PS4 cycle and with Pro/Scorpio, but again Pro/Scorpio are not next gen consoles. Yes, we could say that Switch compared to Pro/Scorpio will be something similar like Wii U to XB1/PS4, but huge difference is that XB1/PS4 will remain strongest current gen consoles on market with full suport in future also, and that actually this time Nintendo console have very modern hardware and tech compared to Wii U.

There is no meaningful distinction though. Whether or not you consider them a "generation" is irrelevant, they're still hardware launching within a year of Switch which are just as far ahead of it in power and PS4 and Xbone were over Wii U.

Just as Wii launched alongside 360 and PS3, and Wii U launched alongside PS4/Xbone, Switch is launching alongside Pro and Scorpio. It doesn't matter that PS4 and Xbone are still supported; PS2 was still supported when Wii came out and PS3/360 were supported when Wii U came out.

Of Course it is, Scorpio and Pro are parts of same platform like XB1 and PS4, they are not brand new generations platforms they will play exatly saem games, only difference is power. XB1/PS4 will still get full support until next gen despite stronger versions of hardware.

Offcourse that is matter, beacuse PS4/XB1 are still curent gen consoles same like Pro and they will get full suport at least until next gen arives. PS2 did had some 3rd party support later (same like PS3/Xbox360 now) but didn't had true new gen games (Batman, Mass Effect, BioShock, Oblivion, Skyrim, Fallout, Asasins Creed, Dark Souls...all Sony exlusives...), while XB1/PS4 will continue getting current gen games and exclusives at least until next gen arrives despite Pro and Scorpio.

Indeed. And the better your price point, the more consoles you can sell, which means higher game sales potential. Win/win. Because game and accessory profits are where the VAST majority of profits are. That's the thing about the WiiU that drove me crazy. $349 for aaaaaaaaages, and while it had some very good titles for it, it was simply too expensive to find a decent market penetration and install base.

If a 'headless' Switch was made for $149, and as a result they sold an extra ~12 million units over the life of the unit, multiply that by the attach rate average, and you can compute the extra income and profits Nintendo would make. Price is a big deal.

But none of that matters though. Fact is, Switch will be launching alongside consoles that are just as far ahead of it as PS4/Xbone are ahead of Wii U. So the gap has not changed.

Actually it matters, because Switch can easily get XB1/PS4 ports, while it was much harder for Wii U to get XB1/PS4 ports because bigger power gap and old tech and architecture.

I'm not talking about ports or support though. (Although as you already pointed out, Wii U did share some games with PS4/Xbone just as Wii shared some games with PS3/360) I'm talking about the power gap.

Sure power is something that convinces me to buy a new console. And it's also important to Sony, Nintendo and MS, otherwise they wouldn't launch new platforms.
Yes, gameplay is of course also important but I also want to play with prettier graphics and want to see tech evolving.

Like wrote, Switch power compare to Pro/Scorpio will be similar like Wii U compared to XB1/PS4, just that Switch will have much more modern tech and architecture compared to Wii U and that makes difrence, but XB1/PS4 are still this gen consoles and they will remain that and gap between them and Switch will be much smaller. So point is that Switch will be in much better place on market compared to Wii and Wii U, if we talk about hardware power and capabilities.

It's not that Switch is actually any more powerful for its time though. Just as Wii U was about 10% the power of its strongest rival, the standard PS4, Switch looks to be about 10% as strong as its strongest rival, Scorpio.
