Sony Expects The Last Guardian to Sell Rather Well

Pre-orders are "exceeding expectations"

The wait for The Last Guardian is almost over. Alongside Final Fantasy XV, which launched just a few days ago after a decade or so in development, the successor to ICO and Shadow of the Colossus is one of the few PlayStation titles that we've been covering for what feels like an eternity. We suppose that any game with such a long history is going to attract some attention, but we've always been under the impression that, like its predecessors, The Last Guardian isn't going to set the sales charts alight.

Sony, however, seems to have healthy expectations for Fumito Ueda's latest creation. Speaking to MCV, product manager Joe Palmer reveals that pre-orders for the upcoming release are "exceeding expectations". Palmer continues: "We've seen a really positive response to the Collector's Edition in particular, which despite its higher price point proves there's a huge appetite for the game."

Palmer then goes on to explain Sony's marketing strategy behind the game, leading to a particularly intriguing quote: "We've tried to avoid fuelling the hype by playing on the fact that people have been waiting a long time for this. We want people to be excited because the game looks incredible, not because of its complicated development story."

I'm sure it will do ok. Lets hope it at least breaks a million.

First impressions I've seen on social media say the game looks good has an interesting story with great puzzles but the framerate is rough. Anyway, its not my kind of game, but I hope it delivers for all the fans that have been waiting for years. :)

I want to buy it, so let's pray it's as good as we expect and that it sell good amount and Sony Japan goes back to the game.

Mr Puggsly: "Hehe, I said good profit. You said big profit. Frankly, not losing money is what I meant by good. Don't get hung up on semantics"

Azzanation: "PS5 wouldn't sold out at launch without scalpers."

People who play this kind of game won't do so for the good or bad frame rate.

At least Sony seems to have reasonable expectations of its games based on this and Until Dawn. It's not going to sell well in the grand scheme of things.

It will definitely do that.

It's going to sell well, they just don't expect it to become the next CoD.

Pre-orders are "exceeding expectations"

I wonder how many of these are from people who preordered it 10 years ago and then forgot about it or died or something.
