Forums - Sales Discussion - Infoscout: “PlayStation Takes the Shelf, Xbox Wins the Browser“

I really really want to know where this narrative of Xbox fans being more into digital than physical.

Whereis the evidence supporting this notion?

There isn't any evidence afaik, and there's absolutely no reason to assume Xbox has a higher ratio of Digital Sales compared to PlayStation.

Pro seems very low according to these. Let's say a million PS4s have been sold, only 30-50k are Pro SKUs?

Well not quite that low.

5% Sold in store were Pro's

11% sold online were Pro's

So going with the 1 million figure anywhere between 55k - 75k sounds reasonable, it does seem quite low, but afaik there wasn't really any Black Friday deals for Pro, so the Slim destroying it on that day seems quite expected.

$212 for Slim Uncharted 4 Bundle was always going to be the heavy hitter on BF!

So we can suppose but without much confidence that PS4 won BF and that the Pro sold very little on BF (almost 2x the price of vanilla).

Not sure how much reliable is them this time, but all thing considered the safer route is to claim technical tie between both for BF, but win for November. And considering cyber monday PS4 is headed to win December as well.

Funny thing is that a lot of people were saying MS didn't made much deals and bundles, but this survey shows quite different and that Sony was the company short on bundles.

ah yeah you're right. Still low, but not as disastrous as I previously thought.

What I find jarring was that either a lot of people were holding off to buy the PS4 Slim on BF or Gears really did drive a lot of the initial support for the XBOS...

Either that or people realized the PS4 Pro sucked and their expectations changed drastically, since it seems it might not have been as popular as the Slim... Now I realize these patterns make no sense. I'd expect the Pro the be the main source of sales, rather than the out since Summer Slim...

It does confirm something though... Microsoft fans no longer like stores, so my call was right...

I dont know why you would think the pro would evee be the main drive for sales. It just makes no sense.

This is the holiday season. Gift buying season. People go where the deals are. And did you see deals on thr PS4? And the pro is an enthusiast console. It's not intended to push the kinda numbers a cheaper slim would push.

And I dont understand what you mean by MS fans no longer like stores. Could it just mean that online retailers had better deals for an XB1? Or MS losing the physical fight just means that they lost because MS fans rather buy their stuff online?

Well, since X1 needs to keep selling more then if retail dropped digital must have rose more than retail dropped... because of reasons.

Soon when NPD shows X1 isn't outpacing X360 as much as before they will claim there are digital consoles.

We have to wait for Cybermonday numbers to see if Pro was that bad selling (there were 340 deals on target and Amazon)

That sample size.... Based on 1500 console sales they've scaled this figure up to represent all consoles sold, that is insane.

Why not check me out on youtube and help me on the way to 2k subs over at www.youtube.com/stormcloudlive

Wrong, has your memory failed after all these years? Why the hell might a console sell less than it's less successful predecessor if the games weren't selling more.

Hardware sales are tied to some extent to software ones. If Hardware sales are higher, why the hell are software sales lower? Are people using the console as a paperweight?

Well the people that bought 6 X360 certainly weren't playing all of them at the same time.

And the higher HW sales (only in NPD, but lower in the rest of the world as far as we know) could be for higher 3rd party games. Not sure why only 1st party X1 games would be an anomaly selling more digital than all other options. We already know the number of players on Microsoft Store in Windows 10 is quite small to use that as the reason for crossbuy making X1 games exclusives go from 20-25% to 50-60% digital.
