That's exactly how it's setup now.......

Electoral votes are setup by population. More population = more votes.

I'm talking about the winner takes all the most states have.  You win the state then you win all the electoral votes for that state.  That wipes out all the other votes for anyone else but the winner.  Some states split the votes up but not many.  Most states are winner takes all.  It should be divided up based on the percentage of votes each candidate receives.

This would probably only help Republicans......

If Hillary would become the winner, it would cause massive amounts of violence and throw the nation into even more turmoil. Best thing would be for Trump to remain and fail and the electoral college be abolished for all eternity.

I would agree to getting rid of the Electroal College if we split the country.

Maybe split each state, dems can have the socialist side. It would be like the cold war, I love it.

US would fall apart without California and New York, the "red states" are all swimming in debt and full of unemployed, unskilled people. The "red USA" aside from maybe Texas would get real ugly, real fast. You'd have a lot of young people trying to flee out of there.

Isn't Cali swimming in debt?  Trump hasn't appointed Sam Brownback as economic advisor yet has he?  I remember he had some foundness towards this douche that completely fucked Kansas.  Hopefully he won't get a chance to fuck the entire USA.

Liberal elitism at its finest. If youre skilled and educated you couldnt possibly live in a red state.

Blue states have their fair share of debt and you would learn that from a little research.

We already see people fleeing from blue states due to cost of living. CA and NY arent as important as you think, but libs seem to think it.

You don't have to split anything... Yes there will be some states that have more people so they willl have a bigger impact on the election, but the it's the same for the Electoral college, not every state has the same number of delegates. So the there is no balance here either.

And anyway, this is not about states, it's about the whole country, the people should elect the president.

The electoral atleast limits the impact of highly populated states on an election.

The electorial college exists because tyranny of the majority ends badly. Especially when it gives a few bubbles in the country a lot of power.

In fact it is indeed the more blue states who struggle financially ...

The northeast United States is a shining example of it ...

It's not "elitism" when California is the 5th largest economy in the world on its own. If you subtracted that from the US on top of New York, the US would draistically be a shadow of itself in terms of global stature. The economic engines of the US are on the coastal cities, there's nothing "elite" about that, it's simply true.

Things change, times change. Once upon a time in the US 50% of people also lived on farms and woke up everyone to walk around in pig crap and work on fields. That's why movie Westerns at one time were one of the largest TV and film genres (Gunsmoke, John Wanye movies). That doesn't exist any more, young people don't want to live on a farm or in the middle of Buttfuck, Nowhere, USA.

Pretty soon most of the world's population will live in urban centers, not just the US but everywhere.

It took 11 states in the Midwest to equal California. It took 12 to beat California. It is working as intended and keeping the states somewhat balanced. It should stay the same. Trump won 3000+ counties. She won 57. At least understand the intent of the electoral college and then form or reform an opinion.

Gore 2000 voter

Kerry 2004 voter

Obama 2008 voter

Romney 2012 voter

Trump 2016 voter

We'll see in 2020.

Do the electoral vote share just stay the same no matter the population though?

What happens if people keep moving to cities and urban centers? Then IMO their electoral vote count should go up.

Do it like in Brazil: Single day election, not a month. open the race to multiple parties and make the election by federal numbers, not delegates, like, who gets the most votes overall wins.
Then make a second round with the two most voted people

My grammar errors are justified by the fact that I am a brazilian living in Brazil. I am also very stupid.
