I think Pokémon Sun and Moon for example is much superior to Pokémon X/Y, but it scored one point lower than it. See for yourself, go back to X/Y after having played Sun and Moon, it's a massive difference for the worst. |
I don`t think that`s entirely fair. A newer game should really be better than an older one based on the fact that not only technology but gameplay mechanics and storytelling have evolved over time. If you were to give someone who`s never played Pokemon before a copy of Red and a copy of X I expect they`d rate X higher, however someone that played both when they were new would have a different perspective on it since they were able to evaluate how good Red was for it`s time rather than just how well it has aged.

Your analogy doesn't make sense. It's only been 3 years and X/Y and Sun and Moon were on the same console. They didn't have to redo al the models and a lot of attack animations, but they did. Just one example.
There have been much better 3D games on the 3DS than X/Y that released around the same time. No excuse for the grid system for example. It was backwards in 2000 already, let alone 2013.
