Your analogy doesn't make sense. It's only been 3 years and X/Y and Sun and Moon were on the same console. They didn't have to redo al the models and a lot of attack animations, but they did. Just one example.
There have been much better 3D games on the 3DS than X/Y that released around the same time. No excuse for the grid system for example. It was backwards in 2000 already, let alone 2013.
