Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Why I am not worried about getting FFXV on the Xbox

Deus ex came out a little under hree months before the pro and they patched the game in a relatively short period of time. Because of its sales the game has had to drop in price quicker than normal. This makes Mark Cerny absolutely correct that it only takes 1% of developers, developmental time to produce a resolution patch for the upgraded platforms. Whatever logic works for the PS4 also goes for the Xbox Scoprio. I thank Cerny for his words.

Cerny is right, it does only take 1% of development time. Again this does not prove a Scorpio update for FFXV is likely, it just means it's possible.

But regardless, there is a big difference between three months before with deus ex, and 12 months before with FFXV.

There's also a big difference that PlayStation 4 is Deus Ex's lead platform, and Xbox is anything but a lead platform for Final Fantasy.

It feels like in this thread you are treating evidence that suggests there CAN be a FFXV update to there ALMOST CERTAINLY will be.

I'm not arguing that FFXV certainly won't get patched, I'm arguing against you seemingly thinking it's a very high probability, when evidence clearly shows it's not.

I'd say less than 1% of third party titles releasing 11 calendar months or more prior to the Pro recieved an update. It doesn't matter what Cerny said, developers aren't putting in the 1% of effort for old games.

The larger the publisher (Activision/EA/Square...etc) the higher the chances of a patch being accomplished. Square is a large publisher and Deus Ex isnt even one its primary game. That is reserved for Tomb Raider and Final Fantasy. Being an expected lead platform is what people focus on, but people also forget Microsoft got Rise of the Tomb Raider to be exclusive to their platform. Given Sony's relationship in talking Square into giving them the mainline FF franchises and stopping them from keeping Versus 13,  whats to stop them from asking for a measly Scorpio patch? Microsoft loves to throw things that made Sony relevant in their face like Metal Gear, Final Fantasy and Blue Ray. A more potent console and a higher resolution version of FF makes sense then based on their motivations.

It won't be a native 2160P(4K) at all times, it might not even hit 2160P at all on Scorpio as it looks to be a very demanding game. It will probably support a higher resolution than its Pro counter-part(that's if Square even patch it 12 months later for Scorpio which I somewhat doubt) but a native 4K resolution would compromise other visual elements and frame rate heavily.

I agree with this. I dont know if I replied with this before. They I think they will shoot for something close to the pro or better. The game does look demanding. You're spot on about the framerate concerned at 4k.

Yet those publishers didn't bother updating old games for the Pro, except Black Ops 3 on Activisions part... only one of their older titles, which just so happens ot be the best selling game on PS4. But again Deus Ex wasn't an old title when it was updated for Pro. Really a patch for a 12 month old game just isn't that relevant, there's no money to be made their so people just don't bother.

I'll be generous and give a 35% chance of FFXV getting patched for Scorpio, but that's only because I currently lack info on Scorpio and it's release date as well as FFXV's post launch plans.

Using Playstation Pro as a precedant the odds are heavily stacked against a Scorpio Update. It's an established fact, people haven't bothered updating old games for Pro.

Black Ops 3 is not even an optiojn since its an annual game. Black Ops 3 is definitely not getting it and I would not opt to give it a pro patch either. You should only give options for annualized games from the launch.

You are a very strange man.

I'll play FFXV on PS4 and FFVII on Scorpio--if it's a big enough improvement. Certain third party franchises just belong on certain consoles, in my ocd mind.

Saints Row, Mass Effect, WWE, Dead Rising, GTA, Call of Duty for Xbox
Dead Space, Metal Gear, Final Fantasy, Street Fighter, Batman for PlayStation.

Unless there's a huge performance difference, I just go this route. God, I hope Mass Effect on XBO can keep up with PS4 Pro...

Having foresight is strange to those who dont like mental chess. When you grow up paying attention to gaming decisions and taking it in, you start seeing the industry deifferently. Besides, COD games are annualized and I gave you two (which i provided as evidence) games that are not.To Square Enix, Final Fantasy is more valuable to than those games combined.  By the current logic, annualized games are a lost cause to give a pro patch to.  People will be playing FF XV for years to come. New gamers will play it, three years from now. Thanks to sales people who cannot afford an early copy will get a discounted copy. Expect a Rise of the Tomb Raider patch as well.

Sorry to break it to you but FFXV won't be 4k on the Scorpio or any other console, unless you want to wait for some kind of PS5 remaster

Please enlighten us with your Scorpio spec details. Im very interested to know how powerful the next Xbox will be..

It doesn't matter how powerful it is or isn't, it's not going to happen either way.
