Forums - Sony Discussion - Should Shuhei Yoshida be fired from Sony?

I think the fact that Sony isn't super firm with their developers is why they put out such awesome games. Sony allows them to make the games they want to make, and doesn't pressure them to rush the product to make a quick buck off of something that is garbage. Would it be nice if devs met timelines a little better? Yes, but there's generally a reason behind delays. As several people have already said, I'd much rather see a game get delayed and turn out great, than one that gets rushed out and is full of all sorts of problems. Playstation has been doing great under Shuhei. He's basically Playstation's Iwata, and I don't think he should be fired at all.

in my opinion, a better solution for Sony would be to not give release dates so far ahead, on the slightly high chance that there will be hiccups in the development cycle that could lead to delay.

Shuhei Yoshida & Mark Cerny are why Sony is haveing so much success with the playstation right now.

Aparently hes very good at planning, and spotting talent.
Hes a nice guy and a good figur head.
I dont see why you would replace him.

Delaying the release date of games will be a normal thing in the future, the modern games are taking a big effort of work to make, and are talking about three to four years of development time, so i can understand, when a game will release after that long time, they want be sure the game is good and the game will sell good enough to gain back the money of the long development cost

Too damn nice? Shuhei Yoshida should have been fired from Sony when he suggested Demon's Souls was shit!

Yoshida should've been sacked right away after mentioning they weren't bringing DOAX3 over because SJWs...

So wait, under his watch Sony's first and second party strength has swelled and their new console has been a smash hit and you want to fire him because of some delays, many of which aren't even that bad? Just...what?

I mean, he's no Don Mattrick, driving first party strength into the ground and refocusing the brand in a stupid direction and occassionally saying consumer hostile and insultijg things. Don Mattrick is the kind of executive you fire. Shuhei Yoshida is the kind you give a bonus.

Why not mention that delays are caused by the game developers.... not the head of sony?

I mean its litterly out of his hands, all he can do is force them to launch something broken.... thats his alternative to accepting delays.

Dont see how thats any better, and him not doing so, should mean he gets fired. It doesnt make sense.

Yeah Shuhei is actually doing a great job as well, playstation has done well with him where he is. I just dont understand OPs logic.

Dont get me wrong -Shuhei Yoshida- head of Sony's Worldwide Studios- is one of the nicest and most likable guys in the industry .

The problem is, under his watch, first party games have been constantly delayed- including The Last Guardian, Uncharted 4, GT Sport and Horizon Zero Dawn to name a few.

Maybe that's the problem - he's just too damn nice. He needs to be more firm with the development teams  to make sure they are staying on schedule and meeting their deadlines.

I understand that no one wants a game released that is unfinished or broken - but at the same time I don't think developers should make promises they can't keep.

And that's where Shu needs to step in and set the expectations for the teams. If they set a release date - he needs to hold them accountable.

I wonder if he's already in hot water. He's been noticeably absent from Sony press conferences since last year's E3, and with the recent departure of Adam Boyes (another top Sony exec) perhaps Shu is on his way out the door as well?

The most sucessful hardware console company + the best 1st party software line up. Internet: let's fire him. Right.

I would rather games be delayed than to be released as the next Sonic Boom.

Sonic Boom was a different story. The dev team themselves fell apart. No amount of delays was going to make that game better because the developers were the ones that dropped the game.

I think we need more people like him that have the balls to delay a game to ensure it gets to where it needs to be than to release a broken game that needs months of patches.

At the very least ubisoft needs to learn from him
