Forums - Gaming Discussion - When will Digital Prices finally go down?

Well in the USA buying games digitally is always the same as physical release: $60

Yeah that sucks. Prices go up for everyone else, and we have to pay more so that everyone in the US don't go crazy for a game being more than that coveted '60'.

Prices for new PS4 games on PSN are around £54.99 ($72). Which is way way way up from PS3. Luckily I can still get physicals from Amazon for about £40-45.

2 Hairstyles for female characters: Long and 'Political Agenda'
2 Sexualities: Straight and 'Political Agenda'

Console digital will never be as good as PC digital because on PC if a publisher releases a game on PC, at least 5 different vendors will sell their title. So that's 5+ different places where vendors can compete with price to get people to buy from them over another place.

On consoles, for XBLA you only have Microsoft. For PSN you only have Sony. There's much much less incentive for MicroSony to make games cheaper, you can't buy them digitally anywhere else.

They won't go down as long as physical version of games are the most sold. Console manufacturers and publishers will not undercut Gamestop and other retailers with the digital version of games as they are afraid of burning bridges with these retailers who are the biggest promoter and seller of their games.

Maybe one day when consumers shift over to a majority digital we'll see digital prices change but as long as retailers are the biggest avenue by which people buy games, it's not gonna happen.

NEVER!!!

Made a bet with LipeJJ and HylianYoshi that the XB1 will reach 30 million before Wii U reaches 15 million. Loser has to get avatar picked by winner for 6 months (or if I lose, either 6 months avatar control for both Lipe and Hylian, or my patrick avatar comes back forever).

Digital Prices on consoles is pretty much locked tight just like how they are locked tight specifically for that platform (i.e. no chance of b/c like how you cant have PS3 PSN titles on PS4 PSN)

Its why I try to avoid digital as much as I can when it comes to console gaming and strictly only buy games when...

1 - If a physical copy is hard to find and/or is overpriced
2 - If a really good deal is available on PSN (flash sales, etc)
3 - If its exclusive digital only

I dont think console game prices will ever be as good as Steam's own sales and I know for a fact it will never be like third party reseller sites like Humble store, Bundle Stars, GMG, etc.

Huh?  Anything you downloaded on Wii can be played on Wii U, and anything digital on the DSi can be played on the 3DS.  There's no reason why downloadable games should be less b/c capable than physical games, unless the developer wants to fuck you over.

Right now, my favorite game is $20, physical copy of course while digital is still $60, at this point.. I don't think digital will go price down.

Note: the game just came out almost 4 months ago this year.

Wait for them to go on sale I guess, I usually buy them phsycially from amazon cause well.. They can go down in price very quickly or sometimes you get a steal and the next day it's more expensive again XD

I think digital gaming will alienate casual gamers.

They can no longer sell the game or pick up used copies or get the game from a friend.

However they can higher cash flows form.hardcore gamers.

Nintendo's the only exception - well other than the fact that you have to go through an annoying process to transfer the titles - but my post was mainly towards Sony and MS. (Though we'll know in a few months if Nintendo will continue being the way they were this gen).

Other than that even if the systems could handle b/c - they wont because they know they can easily make money off of people who are willing to re-purchase the game just to play it on the latest platform (majority will).

Actually... I think thee PS4 is the only system that doesn't have digital BC in some capacity.

XBox 360 has digital BS on the same titles it has retail BC.  Vita ONLY has backwards compatibility with digital games.  The only current gen system with no BC is PS3-PS4, and that doesn't have BC for either physical or retail.  Even then I don't think it's an effort to actively attack consumers.  The architecture is just completely different.

I live in Brazil and PC is a success because of the digital prices of Steam. The biggest villain is our government that taxes differently softwares from PCs and games from consoles, the other part is Sony's fault. It is very common to see a 100% difference between the prices, like R$59 on Steam and R$170 on consoles.

If the prices here had the same proportions you have with € I would only buy for consoles.

3DS, Wii, PSP, Vita, PS2, PS3, PS4 & Steam.
