Welp, despite the lose I'm still super proud of what the Giants were able to do this season. They went to 11-5 from having back to back 6-10 seasons and they were able to do the impossible by completely recreating their defense in one off season. This is a new team with a lot of young talent so a bright future is ahead for the Giants!

Giants O is just straight mediocre. Dominate first half only to get 2 field goals, could have been a very different game if they had 2 TDs instead.

Domination is what the Steelers showed in their first three drives today. Unless I've missed something, the Giants only got twice into field goal range despite having the ball six times.

The domination is in comparison to the anemic Packers O until the hail mary.

4-0 for me!

It was a pretty obvious week though. NY@GB was the only tough game to pick. Turned out to be a blowout anyway.

Looking at the playoff spreadsheet as Rol updates. Gotta feel bad for TheGoldenBoy and sethnintendo. Both went 4-0 and lost.

Also who do I send my picks to since I'm facing Rol this week?

ANNOUNCEMENT - Wild Card Weekend Results, Matchups for Divisional Playoffs

All home teams won by at least two scores. The only game that was still competitive going into the fourth quarter was Giants@Packers which ironically ended with the biggest margin of victory. While the NFL playoff weekend was disappointingly boring, the prediction league results weren't. You can look up the spreadsheet here. Working with so many PMs is a bit messy, so it's highly recommended that you check if all of your predictions were entered correctly, and if the math on the margins of error is correct. Let me know if there is any mistake.

Here are the results with short comments on each matchup. Numbers in parantheses indicate PDTs (point differential totals) before the HFAs (home field advantage) of the higher seeds in each matchup were applied.

# Username Record/PDT vs. Record/PDT Username # HFA
16 dongo8 3-1/62 vs. 3-1/37 (60) FatedReality 1 23
15 TheGoldenBoy 4-0/42 vs. 4-0/39 (56) amp316 2 17
14 superchunk 3-1/55 vs. 4-0/38 (54) NinjaBlade360 3 16
13 NobleTeam360 4-0/51 vs. 2-2/52 (62) MTZehvor 4 10
12 Miguel_Zorro 4-0/47 vs. 0-4/- Arkaign 5 9
11 Level1Death 3-1/59 vs. 4-0/40 (45) Chris Hu 6 5
10 cycycychris 4-0/35 vs. 3-1/49 (51) RolStoppable 7 2
9 sethnintendo 4-0/42 vs. 4-0/41 (43) ljigga 8 2

1. FatedReality unsurprisingly went with the Giants, but dongo8's undoing (like so many other people's this week) was too much faith in the Raiders. FatedReality succeeded without needing his HFA.

2. TheGoldenBoy is one of two people with a 4-0 record that were eliminated. His predictions were better than amp316's, but the HFA was too big to overcome. And please, don't threaten to kick me in the nuts if the Packers don't win, amp316.

3. superchunk fell into the Raiders trap, but otherwise his predictions weren't really worse than NinjaBlade360's. 4-0 is 4-0 though.

4. MTZehvor, the defending champion in the playoff round, finished with the worst record of the people who submitted predictions. I don't think he'll mind too much, because the elimination of the Giants was more important than everything else. NobleTeam360 was the only player who at one point had picked the Dolphins, but he came to his senses before it was too late.

5. Miguel_Zorro effortlessly advanced to the next round because Arkaign was completely absent despite posting in this thread this weekend.

6. Pick the Raiders and you are doomed, that also held true for Level1Death.

7. cycycychris submitted the best set of predictions this week, but the biggest factor were once again the Raiders.

8. sethnintendo was even closer than TheGoldenBoy to advance to the next round. He was minimally better than ljigga with his predictions, but the tiny HFA of 2 moved the scale in favor of ljigga.

The best losers of the above matchups move over to the consolation round, so for most people the season isn't over yet.

Matchups for Divisional Playoffs

The highest remaining seed faces off against the lowest remaining seed etc. Here are the matchups:

# Username Record/PDT vs. Record/PDT Username # HFA
13 NobleTeam360   vs.   FatedReality 1 20
12 Miguel_Zorro   vs.   amp316 2 13
10 cycycychris   vs.   NinjaBlade360 3 10
8 ljigga   vs.   Chris Hu 6 3

The HFAs for the top 3 got a bit lower, but are still in the double digits. You can continue to use the same PM as for the wild card weekend predictions, unless you are cycycychris. Rules are exactly the same as for the wild card weekend. Here are the NFL playoff games you have to predict:

SEA@ATL
HOU@NE
PIT@KC
GB@DAL

Consolation Round Results

The matchmaking for the consolation round was flexible. Four of the six eligible people decided to participate and their seeds were adjusted to 17-20 based on their order in the final standings of the regular season.

# Username Record/PDT vs. Record/PDT Username # HFA
20 theRepublic  4-0/47 vs.  2-2/58 (68) castor 17 10
19 Farsala  3-1/51 vs.  3-1/45 (50) Angelus 18 5

A clear victory for theRepublic while Angelus slightly edged out Farsala.

Since two people aren't enough for proper quarter finals, the six best losers of the playoffs for the top 16 will move over to compete in the consolation round. Here is the ranking of losers:

1. sethnintendo - 4-0/42
2. TheGoldenBoy - 4-0/42
3. RolStoppable - 3-1/51
4. superchunk - 3-1/55
5. Level1Death - 3-1/59
6. dongo8 - 3-1/62

7. MTZehvor - 2-2/62
8. Arkaign - 0-4/-

sethnintendo and TheGoldenBoy were tied in record and PDT, sethnintendo got the edge because of his better ranking in the final standings of the regular season. The bolded losers above will assume the seeds 21-26 for the consolation round. This is the one and only time that reseeding occurs. An additional rule change is that the HFA is removed for the higher seeds because the calculation doesn't work anymore. However, the higher seed in each matchup still has the very slight advantage that he advances in case of a tie in record and PDT. Here are the matchups for the divisional playoffs:

# Username Record/PDT vs. Record/PDT Username #
26 dongo8   vs.   Angelus 18
25 Level1Death   vs.   theRepublic 20
24 superchunk   vs.   sethnintendo 21
23 RolStoppable   vs.   TheGoldenBoy 22

It probably goes without saying that TheGoldenBoy's predictions are supposed to land in NobleTeam360's inbox this week.

And that's it. I hope I didn't forget anything, or made a mistake when compiling the results.

ANNOUNCEMENT - Bracket Predictions Standings after Wild Card Weekend

As you may remember from last week's update, there are 30 points left to be earned. Up to 16 could be attained this week, but we are only talking theory here, because getting six of the eight teams in the divisional playoffs right is already an accomplishment. Only three people managed this: amp316, Angelus and cycycychris. All three of them got all teams right in the AFC. The NFC side looks like a bloodbath for the prediction league in large part because of the Arizona Cardinals and Carolina Panthers. Last year's winner's final score (chocoloco, 49) has already been eclipsed by the current leader and is very likely to be matched or beaten by a few others.

Here are the full standings, followed by notes on who moved up and down this week, concluded with an outlook regarding who has the best chances to win this contest. Link to spreadsheet is here.

# Username Score RS SEED PT WCW DP CC SB
1 cycycychris 50 21* 5 12 12 - - -
2 NobleTeam360 46 20 2 14 10 - - -

24 sethnintendo 29 10* 1 10 8 - - -
25 LudicrousSpeed 28 12 0 10 6 - - -
26 ReimTime 27 10* 1 10 6 - - -

*Includes two points for correct #1 draft pick.

The top 4 didn't change from last week. Angelus and amp316 each gained two positions while dongo8 and Chris Hu each lost two. theRepublic and superchunk each went up one and Miguel_Zorro gained three as Arkaign fell three and JWeinCom, gergroy and MTZehvor each dropped one. SpokenTruth leapfrogged the group consisting of Farsala, NinjaBlade360, TheGoldenBoy and castor who each lost one spot. WiiStation360 and FatedReality stayed put. ljigga climbed out of last place (up three) while sethnintendo gained one as the duo LudicrousSpeed and ReimTime each lost two. Since everything is green in the table above, everyone still has at least one NFL team left in the race. That, however, is going to change next week because some players are already on their last legs.

Now for the favorites to win this contest. 14 points left to earn.

1. cycycychris commands a four-point-lead and is still full-go the rest of the way. His picks, in order of who will make it the farthest: NE, GB, KC, SEA. While last week it didn't look so good for him based on how many playoff teams he got right, he excelled at getting the teams right that made it to the divisional playoffs.

2. NobleTeam360's predictions are also still at full strength: DAL, PIT, NE, SEA. Little overlap with cycycychris' picks gives him a realistic shot at winning.

3. noname2200 had the attitude of "If Pittsburgh and Seattle really play in the Super Bowl, then god may help us all. I don't even want to pick a winner." - Therefore he is missing a Super Bowl pick (crucial for the tie-breaking procedure) and is limited to a maximum of 10 points for the rest of the way.

4. RolStoppable has still everything left in the race with a combo of GB, PIT, NE and SEA. Since Dallas hosts Green Bay this coming week, the decision whether Noble or Rol can challenge cycycychris will fall very soon.

5. Angelus also has all chances left. His picks are SEA, NE, PIT and GB. However, he needs a perfect score the rest of the way to topple cycycychris on the basis of the tie-breaker.

6. amp316 has no room for error either with his set of PIT, NE and SEA (CAR is already eliminated). If I've calculated his scenario correctly, at least three people would be tied in score at the end of the season, but the Super Bowl winner is of course the first tie-breaker, thus keeping the chance alive for amp316. But if Dallas advances to the NFC championship game, it's over because of the overlap with Noble's predictions.

7. dongo8's favorites NE and GB (CIN and CAR already eliminated) perfectly overlap with cycycychris' predictions, so dongo8 isn't in contention anymore, despite having the same score as Angelus and amp316.

Everyone else has too low of a score to have a shot left at winning. That makes six people left in the run for the title, a number that could easily be split in half with next week's NFL results. It's also possible that cycycychris clinches victory next week on the basis of a Kansas City win against Pittsburgh.

Well shit, it's now so tempting to pick the Chiefs now.

The bracket predictions are locked, so there is no such thing as choice.

What you do in the playoff contest is another matter.
