Zero chance it is the Tegra X2 unless Nintendo suddenly is going against their entire history of designing hardware. The Gameboy used a processor from the 70's. Gamecube to Wii U were based off a 1998 IBM PowerPC and GPUs from 2000 and 2008 respectively.

They have typically followed that philosophy because of cost reasons but we saw with Wii U that using older tech was actually more costly for them and there is also the rumors that Nvidia is giving them a great deal which makes sense because Nvidia has yet to find a notable market for their Tegra line outside of their extremely niche Shield line of devices.

That is completely baffling how they keep using outdated tech in their consoles but still manage to break the bank in profits. Goes to show how much games matter when everything is said and done.

There's lots of reasons for Nintendo to use the Tegra X2/Parker, and it's not just about graphics pissing, the X2/Parker likely offers far better per watt performance and consumes less electricity for the same output that an X1 would. 

Just kinda sorta important for a portable console (unless you like 1 1/2 hour battery life). Tegra X1 runs way too hot to run at max capacity and not burn through even a monster sized battery and is only on the 20nm node right now. A Parker based chip at 16nm would likely run far, far cooler. 

And Nintendo has used fairly cutting edge tech in the N64 and GameCube for their time, not every Nintendo hardware follows Yokoi's design philosophy and it isn't the 80s anymore anyway. 



It's not going with a Tegra X1 and I'll bet anyone on that.

After watching some Digital Foundry videos, the Nvidia X1 looks great. I assume Nintendo also wants to keep price low.

For a portable, yeah Tegra X1 performance would be great. When coded to the metal and specifically tailored games for it, you could probably get even PS4/XB1 ports at 960x540.

I think they will opt for the X2 though because they could axe it down to give similar performance, but likely at a much lower power consumption. Tegra at 20 watts max load is way too hot for a portable, but if X2 can bring that down to 8-10 watts, now you're in business.

Oh, you mean money? Nah all this is only for love and candy lol

What shows that games matters is the quality of these, and in this case they have already proven over and over again that games matter, I know you are one of those that thinks impressive graphics make an average game good, but that's not how things work.



NX is rumored to be using a Tegra X2 Pascal GPU so it just edges out the Xbone...barely. But a handheld capable of running Xbone equivalent games...I'd buy it. As long as battery life is good. Releasing 2 consoles with the same power as 7th gen consoles is kind of stupid. I hope Nintendo doesn't do this because if they do, it'll essentially be a PSVita+Vita TV which isn't bad but isn't new or exciting.



I would be very surprised if they end up using Tegra X2, because it doesn't make sense, is too expensive and consume too much battery, I know some people is so damn simple that thinks all that matters in console is power, but is not, the console cannot have 1.5h of batery, cost 500$ and overheat a lot, if they have managed to include a tegra X2 without those problems then that would be epic, but is very unlikely.
