Forums - Politics Discussion - Video of Unarmed Black Man Lying on the Ground With His Hands Up and Shot By The Police

While I do believe the media is sensationalizing the whole "black people vs the police" thing (I do believe there is racism in the police force, just not as prevalant as they make it out), I do think all of this helps show we need better trained cops. The fact he shot an unarmed man with his hands up shows his incompetence as an officer -and is certainly not someone I'd trust my life with. This is probably the worst case so far, since his hands were clearly up when he was shot and not a threat to the police at any capacity. I'm glad the guy lived though, too many of these stories end up with people dead

Maybe the US of A should stop giving police badges and guns to special school graduates like they were candy.

Hunting Season is done...

Thank god he wasn't killed, and thank god the cop wasn't a muslim

I'll wait for the investigation, because several times an edition cut or just seeing a small sample of these kind of situation is seriously misleading.

Um... the man was shot and he wasn't armed or threating.  Its not okay for a police officer to shoot you.  The man was a therapist/caretaker and he is patient was autistic and sitting on the ground.  Whats worse is that the cop is saying that he meant to shoot the autistic boy but missed... which is all sorts of fucked up.  Namely because why would you shoot someone sitting on the ground and two, why would you miss him and instead hit someone laying on the ground next to him?

What trun of events or investigation is going to make this okay?

Maybe because only after full investigation we'll know what happened and not only a short version of it? But if you preffer to be judge and condemn without due process it's on you.

It isn't, but the OP and first reply in this thread seem to think that those words came from the cops mouth, I'm just saying keep an open mind here that you are quoting what the cop said... according to the person who was shot.

To be perfectly honest, it really doesn't matter what the cop said.  The fact that the man was in a submission postion is really all the evidence you need.  The cop could have said I shot you because I thought you were going for a gun and still it would be the same.

Nevermind, noticed someone already making this statement.

The fact the man got shot is one thing, seeing how the police handle the situation will be something else and should be watch closely.

At what point during the linked video is he seen being shot while in the pose? there is a lot of cuts in that video and a whole lot of editing in both sides of it to make it appear as though no time passes between the footage, but obviously whoever had that perfect clear shot with his cell phone did not continue to record the video or didn't upload what happened at the point where he was shot, why do you think this is? surely the actual shooting of the man on the ground would be the main thing to have included here?

Also if you watch the first link video (I god damn hate having to watch US News more than one time so help me god it isn't a reality tv show, what is wrong with the way people need to have suspense added to their "news" but anyway) Watch the video from 1:20 up til 1:28 watch where Kinsey is in relation to where the kerb / autistic man are on the street right, now watch the angle shown at 1:30 - 1:32 look at Kinseys body on the road... where is it in relation to the previous clip? do you imagine that a non lethal shot managed to flip him across the road from where he was laying? or do you imagine that cops moved in and moved the man that distance to cuff him? Considering the size of Kinsey compared to the 2 cops in that scene I really doubt they would want to be moving a man that size more than 6-10ft just for fun.

Honestly the footage from the phone is proof enough to me that something happened there after that stopped filming and before the actual shooting, also the head of the police department said that the cops bullet went astray and missed? but... who was he trying to shoot if that was the case? the autistic man? or was the chief of police trying to suggest the worst botched warning shot in history?

Either way there is a lot about this story which is not being presented here because it would answer some of the questions which the news station has set up a premium rate number at the end of the second clip to ring for information, both in terms of sensationalising and "clickbaitness" this news station is very much presenting this story as something it isn't or at the very least only presenting the facts that makes it appear much worse.

Man that news station.... When I already hear them like "we have exclusive material we are so great watch us". Damn, as if this would be about a trailer for Star Wars.

You aren't allowed to question and want to wait for more investigation, you must toss this police officer to the lions.

Was kinda sad that the exclusive video of the news of this... already had a band of guys and gals outside the station with pitchforks wanting him thrown in jail... like at the same time the news was breaking of what happened, they already had the pitchforks ready... had they even seen the footage or know what happened in the slightest or just get parts of the news second hand from people on the streets and demand Justice? What's going on in that scene exactly?

Police in the US are not allowed to make warning shots for this exact reason and are trained not to do so under any circumstance. I guarantee it was not a missed warning shot, but more likely a missed shot at the autistic person or an accidental firing.

Police warning shots are a Hollywood trope only.

Because people are ready to hate the police.

So it turns out that this is even worse than I thought.

"A Florida cop who wounded an unarmed black therapist was actually trying to shoot the man’s patient, a union official said Thursday.
The unidentified North Miami police officer thought Charles Kinsey — who was lying on his back with his arms in the air — was in danger, his union chief said. The patient, who escaped from MACtown Inc., a nearby group home where Kinsey works, had a toy in his hand
."

So let me get this straight. The cop claims he was trying to shoot the autistic boy with the toy truck. Missed, hit the person he claims he believed was in danger, and then they proceeded to handcuff him? What the actual f**?

So he thought the therapist was being held at gun point and shoot at the suspect (the patient).... a lot different than shooting someone lying in the ground with the arms up, right?

Wil everytime a new part of this story get released we see a whole different scenario will show and you would still be quick to judge everytime?
