It actually just promotes "healthy" bacteria... it doesnt really make you have increased bowel movements (unless its not healthy).
(it has anti bacteria properties that mainly target the unhealthy types, which in turn promotes the healthy ones).

The cardiovascular benefits are a big win imo, its why Garlic is so great to eat as well.
People that eat tons of onions and garlic are much much less likely to get heart attacks.
It also helps your bone density & connective tissues (so when your old you dont break you hips, if you take a misstep), its Anti-Inflammatory as well, and lowers cancer risks.
