Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo of America: "Grab a Wii U while you can"

Nintendo of America’s executive vice-president of sales, Scott Moffitt, talked about the upcoming content for the Nintendo Wii U. Moffitt said that “there’s certainly plenty of content for existing Wii U owners, but there’s plenty of reasons for people who’ve never owned the console to grab one now while they last”. When he was asked how many Wii U consoles were left, Moffitt responded by saying that “we will be transitioning production to NX, so our message to fans is to grab a Wii U while you can, because they won’t be around forever”.

Wii U seems to be on it's last legs. I believe they might discontinue wiiU as soon as next year going by this statement by Moffitt.

Predictions for LT console sales:

PS4: 120M

XB1: 70M

WiiU: 14M

3DS: 60M

Vita: 13M

Hm I wonder what the implications of this for NX backwards compatibility are.

Hope the NX has BC. If not, there's always Ebay for vintage gaming.

I wonder how much Wii U consoles will cost 15 years from now...

bet: lost

Seriously. Considering how much NES games and such can go for, especially if still brand new and not opened, if you bought a brand new Wii U and kept it in the box and never opened it how much could it go for 10-15 years from now.

To me this implies that there will be no Wii U backward compatibility with NX.

Man, Wii U is definitely Sega's Dreamcast. An amazing console, with amazing content that released at an awkward period and failed in terms of hardware sales. To me, this is good news. They are going out with the old and are confident in NX. This is a Nintendo I haven't seen since 2006.

Nintendo knows at this point Wii U is on its way out and I'm glad they're open and honest about it. By the way he's talking about Wii U, NX will most likely not be backwards compatible at all with Wii U software which I think is a step in the right direction. Get Wii out of everyone's mind and prepare them for something totally new and different. Can't wait for the NX unveiling. Hopefully we'll also get more Zelda footage.

Might get a load of games. Keep my wii u for the future. Hopefully it becomes valuable soon

12/22/2016- Made a bet with Ganoncrotch that the first 6 months of 2017 will be worse than 2016. A poll will be made to determine the winner. Loser has to take a picture of them imitating their profile picture.

The difference is I don't think we'll ever see a Wii U go for $50 consistently on eBay. The dreamcast has always been relatively cheap secondhand, but I'd be hard-pressed to believe that it'll ever really drop in price past maybe $150-200. Especially as gamepads begin to fail in like ten years. The Wii U is going to be a collector's dream.

You should check out my YouTube channel, The Golden Bolt!  I review all types of video games, both classic and modern, and I also give short flyover reviews of the free games each month on PlayStation Plus to tell you if they're worth downloading.  After all, the games may be free, but your time is valuable!
