Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Rumor: Brad Sams (Thurrot) on new Xbox Devices

I'm not feeling it. I'm just not interested in streaming or in Xbox as a service.

I dont like this "platform" talk.Reminds me too much of the initial XOne concept. And we all know how that turned out.Still, Ill wait and see what they have in store.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Not surprising if it happens. We have already seen a steady decline in focus on Xbox One by Microsoft over the last 12 months especially with more exclusives heading to PC and less new exclusives being announced.

So.... this is the counter to PS4 neo ?

Thats a huge blow to the nuts.

Everyone was expecting Xbox to follow Sony, and make a more powerfull version of the One.

This means PS4 neo, will be around 4 times as powerfull as the Xbox One (and this stream service box).

And that Xbox has no answear for it! That is a huge step behinde to be (for the next two years).

"In addition to that, Microsoft will be talking about Xbox as a platform, instead of a gaming console. This is something that is already happening with PC crossplay and Windows 10 gaming."

Thats what hurt the Xbox One when it launched.

Instead of keeping communcation simple, and saying its a game console that plays games, they called it a platform, and talked about tv.

It didnt work out so well.

^ I read that line and thought the same.

What makes sense to me is that the larger streaming device is actually a XBOX slim without BRD or internal HDD. That and the "normal" slim both should have updated internals from a die shrink. Call it 16 CU Polaris 11 with faster Jags. That would put it substantially ahead of PS4 in perf.

Sounds legit and it makes sense with their vision to bring W10 to as many people as possible at a low cost. Apple and Google both have a streaming device, it seems logical for MS to join them.

As for the VR sku for next year, it's interesting they have chosen to partner with Oculus instead of launching their own or partnering with Valve. It looks like MS and Facebook might go on an offensive next year with Oculus.

I think the streaming device will link to Windows apps and Windows gaming platform. It should be a decent alternative to Apple TV or Amazon Firestick.

Whether the 2017 box will be more powerful than the Neo is a different story. I don't think MS will risk a more powerful platform at a higher cost, having to risk more money and sustain higher losses if it doesn't work out considering this generation hasn't gone in their favour.

Seems to be a little confusion over what he said, whether it's 3 devices or 4

Confusion isn't over Xbox Two (or whatever it will be called) but if there's two streaming devices and a Xbox Slim or if it's a Xbox Slim and a Streaming Device

Hopefully the guy does a write down of what he actually said because it's being interpreted in so many different ways lol.

Here's a post from Ekim (The one who found the FCC Filings on the next Xbox) which honestly makes more sense

- He confused the Xbox 1.5 with this Xbox One Slim

So 2 new devices this year and the big upgrade next year.

So the Xbox slim will propbably have no disc drive?
