Yes, it matters where you announce a console.
With Nintenddo declining to show the machine off at E3 it needs another venue to introduce it to the world. Should they hold an event in Tokyo or Kyoto in Japan. Or should they have a big press event in New York like Sony had for the PS4?
In my opinion the US makes more sense because it is a more important market for home consoles. Also announcing it in the west has the implication that Western 3rd parties are onboard. The West is receptive to games from Japan and the West but it would be awkward to show off a game like Madden or Mass Effect in Japan who are generally less enthusiastic about such games.
They could also hold an online event but that detracts from the spectacle of a press covered hands-on event.
Best case scenario would be a simulcast from the US and Japan on the same day if you ask me. What say you?
