Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo Has New TV Marketing Slogan

Honestly don't think catchy slogans are important for products that aren't cheap consumerables anyway

$80 w/a game is pretty cheap I'd say.

You're really working hard for this thing to catch on.

It seems that way to you.

But in all honesty its just lack of forethought on nintendos part.

How is this a good slogan?

check out neogaf, on the matter:

Not that many like this slogan. Tons of people have pointed out that "no play" could end up a bad meme.

Slogans shouldn't have any negative words in them.

Dumb

I'm not really understanding the negativity. You're taking the slogan out of context and picking out two words that are next to each other. The slogan clearly is telling people that this is the only place you can find these games, hence "There's no play like it" because there isn't. You think PS4 "Greatness Awaits" is a great slogan? Talk about overselling something, it sounds cheesy and over-promises on the potential of the system. Nintendo's new slogan is a play on the "There's no place like it!" that sooooooo many vacation and destination commercials have used to advertise for their resorts or events. I understand it, I get it, and I think personally that it is a pretty well thought out slogan, and spells out exactly what you get with Nintendo's systems - great first party games and unique gameplay that you can't get on any other system. However, you haters may as well keep hatin'.

"no+play" in a slogan for a games company? what where they thinking.

Theres going to be so many memes on this. *facepalm*

Sonys "greatness awaits" "this is for the gamers" are okay, but not that good either.

Xbox "All in one, one input" (I didnt even remember this, had to google xbox + slogan).

Xbox "had" a slogan? Really? Must be one of the most underused slogans ever. Am not so sussssure..

I think that it's it's a play on "there's no place like it", that doesn't make it good mind you, but this is Nintendo and you shouldn't expect better from in this department.

I'm now filled with determination.

You're all wildly incorrect. The average parent or purchaser doesn't see "no play" in that respect. If anything it simply draws attention and the brain hones in on it. "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy". It messes with the brain on a different, subconscious level. "Don't push that button".  Nintendo are all massive hit or outrageous miss. They take risks and if they pay off they cash in. If they don't, they make a small loss. Wii v Wii U.

For some reason it reminds me of the Sega megadrive/genesis.

That's... a strange slogan... I don't really get it.

A play on word  to the phrase "There's no place like it!" - a way of saying "This is fun, unique, awesome"

It's flying over the heads of forum members who aren't familiar with American English I think...
