To be expected. Its lower than I predicted though and will definitely make less money than Astro Boy in the US. Your looking at $14 - $18 million at most.

Not necessarily. A movie like this (low budget) can break even by just about hitting whatever the budget was. Tax breaks were also probably used (BC)

Plus, the movie's actors were paid peanuts (Sly got around $10k albiet certain other favours being made by Sony to him) and there is abolutely no chance of residuals costing Sony anything.  Also Marketing budget, non existant.

I'm not sure about there being no marketing budget: just saw a R&C commercial on television for example.

TV adverts are not relatively expensive unless they are primetime and on major networks, and no, cartoon network or nickelogian doesnt count, their marketing premium is relatively inexpensive. The trailers certainly could not have been ''attached'' to any major movies either. T

The fact this movie went under the radar on a site this this is proof of that. Either way, I'd be suprised if Sony make a loss on this.

Its written and directed by the same guy, so maybe.

This is the type of movie that will make back most it's cost in theatres, but will rake in decent profit in home video sales. And it wasn't really put into many theatres, either. My local 16 screen theatre only had one screen dedicated to it, when even smaller kid's movies usually get 2 or 3.

Marketing budget may be in the production budget. They should have been in festivals to rack up more viewer interest. Perhaps the film was whack. It is very painful considering the amount of time the artists have spent to make it possible.

The film looks great from the previews but critics panned it. Fan reviews have been more positive and I tend to give the fans more credibility. Regardless, I don't think Sony had much confidence in the IP with respect to film so they gave it to Rainmaker.

Game-to-movie titles have not been doing great. The highest a game-to-movie title made was $336mil by Prince of Persia with a budget between $150-200mil which is just broken even by the rule of thumb. Though others Silent hill, Maxpayne, Resident evil, Need for Speed($66mil budget and makes $202mil) their budgets aren't big. Sony knew the outcome of these and had to give the rights to someone else. Hopefully, world of warcraft film should bring mor hope.

I imagine they'll advertise the movie nonstop on the front page of the playstation store, so I think they might be able to recuperate their costs, but yeah it's a bomb, but I think the movie wasn't ever expected to be that successful. lol.

Nintendo Switch FC - SW - 5152 - 6393 - 5140 Please feel free to add me :)

It's now at $7.5mill, a figure that should have been the first day opening in the US. I hope Captain America doesn't destroy the momentum it has racked up.
