But the budget of the movie, game, and marketing is pretty massive.

Well I hope this whole reboot is profitable in the long run because the game is great.

Sony didn't even fund the movie.

Makes me feel bad for Rainmaker Studios: Sony not making the film themselves should have been a red flag. Hope they can survive this.

I didn't even know this movie was already out. Then again, I haven't been following it either.

To be honest I never really thought the movie looked good from the trailers but I didn't wanna judge it too early.

I love the game though.

There's no way anyone could have seen this coming.

He says, sarcastically.

At least the game is doing very good numbers!

To be expected. Its lower than I predicted though and will definitely make less money than Astro Boy in the US. Your looking at $14 - $18 million at most.

With a budget of $20mil it should have broken even the first week considering the fact that 3d animated movies does well and no stellar new titles the weekend.

The rule of thumb in the movie is make at least twice the budget to break even. There are other heavy hits coming this may which is going to be difficult to rake the desired revenue. Hope, Rainmaker studios don't lay off staff who have put in their best.

Not necessarily. A movie like this (low budget) can break even by just about hitting whatever the budget was. Tax breaks were also probably used (BC)

Plus, the movie's actors were paid peanuts (Sly got around $10k albiet certain other favours being made by Sony to him) and there is abolutely no chance of residuals costing Sony anything.  Also Marketing budget, non existant.

I'm not sure about there being no marketing budget: just saw a R&C commercial on television for example.

Well it should make its money back, its not even releasing in Australia and NZ for 3 months, also think i read somewhere that it's not out in Japan for a couple of months aswell.

Well it looks like the game is doing better than the movie.

I would find it weird if it wasn't.

Marketing budget may be in the production budget. They should have been in festivals to rack up more viewer interest. Perhaps the film was whack. It is very painful considering the amount of time the artists have spent to make it possible.
