Ambition. I'm talking about the Mario games by the way, I don't really know anything about Zelda.

Their IPs are still as big as ever. Mario, Pokémon, and Zelda are still household names, I mean just look at Mario Kart 8 and all the odds that game is defying in order to reach the sales figures it's achieving.
Pokémon and Zelda are celebrating their 20th and 30th anniversaries this year!
It's their hardware that's irrelevant.
You think people don't love or care for Mario and co. anymore? Of course they do, it's the Wii U they don't give a crap about.
If you were to ask someone they'd easily tell you who Mario is or that they know him, but if you asked if they're interested in a Wii U, they'd most likely say no.
And since they don't care about the hardware, they're not going to buy it, the software sales are going to take a hit as a result, which would suggest that their franchises aren't relevant anymore, but they still are.

One of Nintendo's biggest problems at the moment is that like 95% of their output is E-rated cartoon fare.

Most gamers today demand more than that. Nintendo needs to make their own equivalents to stuff like Uncharted, The Last of Us, Gears of War, etc.

I speak for myself but hardware has never hold me back from purshasing a console,games are the biggest factor and i do think that counts for most.

I didn't say the actual hardware, I said the hardware userbase. As in how much the hardware sells, not how powerful it is.

I both disagree and agree with this. Its just, thats why we have PC, ps4 and xbox one. So we can play those gritty games on that console. I like that Nintendo sticks what its doing good at, but they just need third party support and then they kinda already have gritty games. They should stick what they are good at and with that Nintendo magic
