I've started reading a manga titled Hoshino, Me Wo Tsubutte.  I'm only on chapter 2 but it's pretty nifty so far.

It's about an unhappy, antisocial high-school boy.  When he gets really angry and frustrated at the people who pick on or look down on him, he runs off to the art room and draws portraits of them.

However, he finds out by accident that a popular and attractive girl who hangs out with one of the groups he hates is actually a plain girl who hides behind her makeup.  It also seems that she is terrible at doing her own makeup and needs her childhood friend to do it for her.

When her friend says that she no longer has the time to help her every single day, things start to get complicated ...

Also, did you manage to find that manga you were looking for?

I did, though the version I saw was anime.  Maze Bakunetsu Jikuu.  Not only body-swapping but isekai.  The main character is a girl who finds herself in a fantasy world where a (I think) banished princess needs her help.  For some reason I can't remember, she sometimes turns into a guy who is really strong, violent, and perverted.  I don't remember much else besides that but I liked it as a kid.

Edit:  Oh, yeah, and I really like your avatar right now.

For some reason, your pages can't load properly, but I think I found the one you're talking about (and it perfectly fits your description, haha.)

Personally, I prefer her plain form. It just looks so much cuter. Also, there's something about her that just makes her much cuter. Can't quite put my finger on it... Gotta say, that twist with her has got my attention. I'll give a few more chapters a go.

Also, with Maze Bakunetsu Jikuu I'm kinda surprised about the Isekai part, since this was before Isekai became so popular, or was Isekai around even back then... The art style is interesting too, like the more old school anime of the 90s. Oh wait, it is from the 90s xD

Oh yeah, after a long absence, a certain 4 koma has returned! The new chap is nothing special, but hey, updates are coming back it looks, haha.

Also, for those who like spooks, Shibito no Koe o Kiku ga Yoi got an update as well.

Also an update from the girl who speaks in 5-7-5s, feat. the woes of a protective father. I'd probably be the same if I had a daughter @_@

And I'll wrap this post up with WotaKoi, and I gotta say, totally relateable. Pretty much what happens whenever I buy some new manga.

Update on my mango collection.

Got the whole of Phantom Blood from Jojo, My lesbian experience with Loneliness, I highly recommend it to anyone, deals with the mental issues of the mangaka, great read, also pretty short, only 5 chapters.

The whole of Akuma no Riddle and up to date on Kase-san and Citrus volumes.

Yeah, I'm curious what you think about it if you continue reading it. Lately I've been losing interest. I wonder if you're hit with the same feeling.

And that's a lot of re-reads of Taiyou, though that manga was pretty dang good. I'd like to re-read it again some time.

That's quite a nice lil collection of manga you have. I know a few of those, like Citrus being a current anime in the season.

It's nice to see New Game! is getting more frequent updates, as it continues past the end of the 2nd season of the anime. So if the anime doesn't continue with a 3rd one, at least there's the manga to fall back on.

Hoshino, Me Wo Tsubutte is a strange manga.  I like it even though I'm not crazy about either of the main characters.  They're pretty basic but it still managed to catch me completely by surprise with revelations I was not expecting at all.

I think the most important part for me is that the side characters are really interesting.  It might not be obvious at first but many of them have more depth than you normally see from side characters.  It's hinted at before it comes to light and I really like that, too.

Yeah, I'm quite surprised how much I really got into this manga. I just couldn't stop reading after a point. I do like the main guy in that he's not a typical average nice guy. It's a nice change of pace I feel, and I think he's a relate-able character. Also, yeah, the side characters do get some nice development and seem more interesting. I was quite surprised to learn more about the delinquent girl and glasses girl. I like this ongoing theme with people hiding behind 'masks'. Oh, plain Misaki is pretty dang cute too xD

That happened to me, too.  I was thinking to myself that the manga was just OK but I kept wanting to read more.  I was expecting to lose interest but I didn't.

Kanou and Matsukata are my favorite characters.  They're both kind of messed up but that makes them more intriguing and human.  The manga doesn't just throw their problems at you in one go, either, which makes them feel complex like real people.  I also like how no one really seems to get exactly what they want.  Stuff isn't tied up with a neat little bow.

I want to know more about Riho and kitty-mouth.  I like them, as well, and there have been a lot of hints thus far that Riho has her own share of problems.

I wouldn't say the main guy is likeable, exactly, but you're right that he is relatable.  He is very conflicted and that makes him feel human, too.  In fact, the only one who doesn't really feel human is Hoshino but I expect we will get to her eventually.  She looks like a western cartoon in plain form.
