Street Fighter V (PS4) 145 43.15%

Rise of the Tomb Raider (X1) 191 56.85%

Total:336

Street Fighter V will have much better legs than Rise of the Tomb Raider.
Street Fighter V lifetime sales > Rise of the Tomb Raider lifetime sales

Around the Network

For the sake of the thread, I'll say Rise of the Tomb Raider.

Theres more than 10 PS4 copies of Street Fighter 5 2nd hand in my local shop already.

Even if we factor in Digital sales Tomb Raider easily wins. Didn't MS announce Tomb Raider was over 2 million combined back in January? It was on a Gold members sale on the store for 1 week new years week. From what I understand Street Fighter 5 was very poor digital. It didn't chart at all in EU on opening week on PSN. And only 5th in Us PSN.

If you are going to compare them like this, it should be ALL sales for the game. Street Fighter V has to compete with PC, while Xbox had no other platform to compete with. So it would be more "like for like".
The way it is being done gives ROTR a clear advantage.

I'm going to side with SFV on this one, because the game will get more popular when that update comes out.

Yeah, no thanks. Don't make a thread asking for a discussion and then refuse to provide the data for said discussion.

He didn't. He provided the data for the Global Sales which is what the discussion and topic are about, not just the US sales. The US sales comment was just an observation.

Origionally there were no numbers in this thread. When someone asked him to provide some, he said no...

Luckily, it looks like that didn't stick.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

People complain about TR sales, but it seems that considering digital it reached around 2 million copies.
If you consider the PS4 has twice as much units, there is a chance it will sells 4 million on PS4. On total TR might reach 6 million total which I think is a good number. I really hope the series dont die.

The week over week drops already prove this statement wrong.
unless you talk about legs in one or two years from now.

And in that case: online game vs single player
if we talk about physical only sales sfv ps4 vs tomb raider xb1, yes sv can possibly sell more
but overall lifetime, tomb raider will outsell street fighter by 2:1 or even 2,5:1

I highly doubt that.

Tomb raider is on 4 platforms. Street fighter only on 2
it's the better game with better critics and word of mouth.
why should tr not sell 6 million? Even the last incarnation  sold 7m afaik. And return of the romb raider is generally considered the better game out of the 2 new tomb raider games.
and sfv need a heck of a turnaround to sell more than 3 million

Only if tomb raider will fail miserably on the ps4 and sell well below 1m, this game won't reach 5 or 6 million lifetime

How am I the only one to notice how mismatched this comparison is.

ROTR's 10 weeks was over christmas and is a single player game that people are drastically more likely to buy physical for.

SV5 launched in February and is going to have a drastically higher digital percentage.

Two very different games, SFV was marked down on content (which will soon be added), nobody said it wasn't a good game. The core game is excellent and most, if not all the reviews go out of their way to say this.

Street Fighter just received a 9 / 10 from PS UK official magazine, people do still put some stock in publications opinions. The content thing was hugely overblown.

By the time Tomb Raider releases, Uncharted 4 will have been out quite a while and ROTR will seem like old hat, it also has competition due from Horizon, a game that is truely open-world, far more innovative and unique and has a more compelling character.

I think ROTR is in for a harder time than you think.

Also people keep comparing SFV sales to SFIV sales, which is in my opinion a huge error. SFIV sold not because it was any good but because it came at a time when people hadnt played SF in a long time and people bought out of nostalgia. That nostalgia has had its fix and now no longer needs filling. The game is trending as a normal fighting game would. Approximately 600 - 650k sold WW across all platforms and regions est.
