Street Fighter V sold well for what it is.

Maybe... but its pretty clear Capcom isn't happy with these numbers.

As I pointed out in the OP its well below SFIV on PS3 alone.

Capcom should've released SFV on the Xbox One instead of partnering with Sony.

Anyway I guess ROTTR doesn't seem like a "flop" now, does it?

They both flopped in sales figures, and we have no idea the budgets of either game. It is hard to say which one flopped more without knowing anything.

RotTR didn't break records, but it sold at par with the TR 2013 on 360. The 360 port of RotTR did okay as well. Furthermore, it sounds like the PC version is doing well and is still coming to PS4. I don't see Square Enix apologizing for getting it wrong like Capcom.

From just sales perspective, RotTR is in a much better place and got funding from MS.

SFV is one of the biggest flops of all time

From just sales perspective, RotTR is in a much better place and got funding from MS.

We still don't know budgets or just how well it did relative to the deal made with MS, and vice versa for SFV.

1.I mean if it was same budget as TR 2013, then it is doing worse due to the PS3 version. PS4 and PC going to have to make up for a lot of lost sales.

Maybe I am completely wrong, but imo ROTR had a higher budget then SFV. Western games tend to have ridiculous budgets compared to Japan, especially when you take into account how little content SFV has.

2.Things get even more complicated when you look at FW sales, IE sales at full $60. I am not sure the relationship between retailers and companies during the holidays. For example when you add TR to bundles, the game generates less revenue. Obviously is very beneficial for selling hardware, but less revenue for software.

3. Maybe I am pessimistic but I do not think ROTR will outsell TR 2013.

With all that said I feel both SFV and ROTR flopped. The Exclusives did their job of creating hype, and selling to the hardcore, and some hardware.

Again these things are far too complicated for us to figure out, and neither MS or Sony will likely talk about how beneficial the deal was.

Well you're the one saying both flopped not really knowing anything. I'm just pointing out from a sales perspective we certainly know RotTR is in a better position and its profits are not dependent on a single console. TR is also more popular on PC than SF.

1. We don't know how big the budget was RotTR, but we certainly know MS covered a lot to get exclusvitiy. Otherwise it would have launched on PS4 as well.

I would assume RotTR had a bigger budget, but they have more platforms to depend on so that justifies a bigger budget. However, the ongoing support Capcom has planned for SFV can't be cheap either and is selling less.

2. Well we are at a point where SFV has already been heavily discounted with less sales than RotTR.

3. That might be the case... and that's why MS paid Square Enix for exclusivity. Less sales are likely for the exclusvitiy so they pay them to make it worthwhile.

Personally, I think this exclusive buying a complete waste of time for both MS and Sony. They are literally spending money keeping games away from people. But I guess its cheaper than making games.

Congrats to ROTR poor SFV...well Capom that's what you getting for releasing a game int eh manner you all did SFV it was indeed a disappointment....and as a huge fighting game fan it hurts to say that!

I don't think the way it launched is inhernetly bad, I mean KIller Instinct appears to be a success.

But I guess asking for a $60 upfront before the game is complete is not a good strategy. Maybe Capcom should consider a F2P version of SFV if sales stay modest.

Yeah $60 dollars for a franchise that is not as young s it used to be. The game not being complete when it came out and Capcom being nowhere near their former selfs all helped the sales be as low as they are. They need a new strategy.

I dont think age is the issue, but look at whats it following. SFIV launched with more content, then it was supported for like 6 years and became a huge game.

SFV launched with less content than SFIV and doesent do much to distinguish itself from its predecessor to the average gamer. It doesent feel like a sequel we needed, it feels like Capcom wanted to make money fast. Its a fine game, we just didnt need it now in its current state.

If sales dont look great by Febuary of 2017, I say go F2P.
