Disney: Peter Pan (it may have been good back in it's day, but Disney would be sued if it was released now)

Pixar: Planes, followed closely by Cars

Those 2 Pixar films generally are not overrated to begin with, Cars is the least liked Pixar film and Planes wasn't made by them and was crap.

On the Pan thing, I'm intrigued as to why they'd get sued. I'm thinking back to the film and can't think of anything bad in it (although I haven't seen it in a while).

Hmm, pie.

Good job nobody posted Snow White, I almost had to dig out my "You're a cunt" gif.

Hmmm....  I didn't know that Planes wasn't made by Pixar.  Good to know.

As for Peter Pan, the portrayal of the native americans is racially stereotypical, and I think this is what would get Disney in trouble if they released it now.  I was rather embarrassed when I showed it to my kids.  Just like you, since I hadn't seen it in a while, my memories of it were good.

Wikipedia has a list of the controversial items:

Toy Story. If that movie would have been made with traditional animation, it would have been forgotten imo.

Actually, no. They planned woody to be an asshole that wants to kill Buzz.

Steve Jobs(who used to be a large  part of Pixar) made them completely rewrite the script to make it more appealing to everyone. They ended up doing so and released the movie, creating a huge success.

Steve Jobs was a major factor in Pixar being popular

Spirited away a mess? Random elements? I guess it's the movies fault for not explaining the Japanese folklore it is based on in a 2 hour documentary before the movie starts :) Not that that's needed.

For me Wall-E is very overrated. It's a slow and rather boring movie to watch again, very simple and drawn out. Heck I like frozen better than Wall-E. It's one of my 4 year old's favorites.

Movies are supposed to be self explanatory but even with previous knowledge about japanese folklore, the movie remains a series of randomness put together. You have a princess mononoke avatar, now that's a proper anime movie.

Well ofcourse, Mononoke is the best movie of all time! Yet that doesn't explain everything either.
Spirited away was amazing to watch for the first time, I never had a feeling of being lost in the plot, only wonder. But true, the script is a bit random.
Much preferred over movies like Tangled and Brave anyway. And how to train your dragon 2 is overrated as well. Did not need a sequel. And now there's a third coming, it's going to be the next ice age.

Snow white and Aladdin.

The incredibles and Gru. They are really weak if you ask me.

I cant believe people thinks Ghibli movies are overrated, they are the very best exemple of great animated movies, even more than Pixar and Disney. But thats only my opinion.

Say, I wonder. Can a moderator moderate their own comment?

Totally disagree. CGI was the number one factor in it being popular imo. It was new tech and it blew people away. I was like 14 or 15 at time, I remember it well.
