Splatoon vs DK

I agree with you Pavolink on this one, it took too long to develop it and the game wasn't the console-moving title everyone expected it to be. It doesn't keep it from being an excellent game with a marvelous soundtrack, but considering this is a business we are into, more could have been done.

Exactly. Nobody is saying it is a bad game. It was that some of us were expecting to see something that push the hardware to its limits and clearly DK didn't do. On top of that, people were defeding the decision because DK was the right move and was going to sell very well, even some said it will help to move consoles.

I can't blame them as Returns on Wii gave that illusion. DK to me is a game that has to be released on an established fanbase, not as a system seller.

But Splatoon had the right ingredients to be a success: it appeals to a broader audience because

1) It is a shooter with a strong online community, so appeals to an older audience

2) But it doesn't involve blood, rather cartoon violence, so it's suited for kids too

3) Emphazises on ''being cool'', with trendy clothes, shoes

4) It is colorful, bubbly, with whack music so appeals to the Japanese audience

Anyone who does the math know you're absolutely right.

And if Splatoon was succesful, I'm pretty sure Retro could have been succesful with a similar IP. They know how to do shooters, or multiplayer and can look for someone to help them build a busy online community. Hopefully this is a good lesson and they try to do something new and fresh, doesn't matter if it is not Metroid, but they can still achieve great success with a new IP.

I think though that Nintendo shouldn't give DK to a team that doesn't understand the essence of DK. Retro did a great job capturing the spirit, especially with the second one (They got right the enemies and the music, which were my 2 biggest complains about Returns). It may have hold them back from creating a new tentalizing IP, but they made sure DK wouldn't fall into oblivion like it did back in the Gamecube days (even though EAD Tokyo was in charge of Jungle Beat, they didn't quite catch the essence like Retro did) and for that I'm eternally grateful. But I'm biased since it is my favorite franchise.

I didn't like Jungle Beat.

Me neither, but what's shocking is that it was the same team as the brilliant Galaxy games, so you can see that for a treasured franchise, you need extreme handling and caring. That is the real success of Retro.

Err... you do realise the data gives MP3 higher sales? Thats what the "data"shows. So you are the one ignoring it, or making up excuses that is...

I'm just gonna hope that you really aren't paying attention and thought we were comparing MP3 to DKCTF.

Are you serious? You quoted me remember? You started an argument with me over demand... and now its about what other people are saying? Good joke! Carry on.

My mistake for not directly pointing out your broken logic earlier. Comparing MP3 vs. DKCTF over MP3 vs. DKCR makes no sense as they released on different systems with a massively huge installbase difference. I've been saying the whole time that DK is bigger than Metroid as MP3 vs. DKCR has shown, so the only way to not know that is if you aren't paying attention.
