Forums - Movies & TV - One Punch Man is so overrated.

I agree that it's overrated but it's good enough to be a neat parody ...

As much as I enjoy the series, the "OMG IT'S THE SAVIOR OF ANIME/MANGA" fervor that surrounds it is pretty fucking annoying. I just try to ignore all that and enjoy the series for what it is.

:D

It's simple to understand why it's so loved. This is pretty much Dragonball Z on drugs, except that being action/exposition oriented, it's a parody. Instead of always finding someone stronger than Saitama, we get villains that think they are stronger than Saitama, but nobody is. Honestly, the whole anime is just pointless! Of course Saitama will win. That's the main plot But people wanna see how strong he is, or if someone is actually stronger.

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

I find it a little condescending when the assumption is that if you think the anime is best/your favorite then you simply haven't watched enough anime and your opinion is inferior.

I've been watching anime of all types for nearly fifteen years and I would easily put OPM in my top favorites. As someone who was very into the manga before the anime was even announced, it was everything I could have wanted in an adaptation. The animation was some of the highest quality I've seen in a series in a while and it stayed faithful to the source material.

Is it something revolutionary that is meant to evolve the art and change how we view anime?

No.

But for what it does, it does it the best that I've seen in awhile. The only person I've known in person to dislike it felt that way because they were wanting it to be a typical shonen anime and were disappointed when it wasn't. For me, I'm glad that it wasn't. It offers something fresh and unique. While that won't be for everyone, saying that anything is 'overrated' just because you personally don't see the appeal while dismissing the qualities that people do like about it makes you seem pretentious.

Overrated is a word that had been overused lately, and should only be applicable for things like Twilight, in my humble opinion.

If we're talking about Twilight then I think the word you're looking for is underrated...

I got punched in the face by a crazy fan girl for dissing Twilight. Those fans were some of the most rabid I've ever seen.

It is pretty good. I've seen 4 episodes of it and will likely watch more. With Anime i usually stop after an episode or two.

Edit: I wanna add that i do like Anime gifs. They give me that Anime experience without having to watch 500 episodes.

I find it really boring, which was disappointing since I heard a lot of people say it was really good.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

I watched the first 3 episodes at 2x speed and it's pretty interesting :p

Have yet to finish it though

Its kinda in the name.... One punch is all it takes.
Guess its not for everyone.

I agree with this 100%

But I guess it is just not for me.  I mean, I love the animation and I love watching all the fights were Saitama is not involved, but I as soon Saitama comes in and finish it with one blow...  well, I feel like all the fun is gone with that blow.

And I understand that it is supposed to be a parody and everything but...  yeah, that "one punch idea" was something that I could digest only one or two times.
