I find it a little condescending when the assumption is that if you think the anime is best/your favorite then you simply haven't watched enough anime and your opinion is inferior.

I've been watching anime of all types for nearly fifteen years and I would easily put OPM in my top favorites. As someone who was very into the manga before the anime was even announced, it was everything I could have wanted in an adaptation. The animation was some of the highest quality I've seen in a series in a while and it stayed faithful to the source material.

Is it something revolutionary that is meant to evolve the art and change how we view anime?

No.

But for what it does, it does it the best that I've seen in awhile. The only person I've known in person to dislike it felt that way because they were wanting it to be a typical shonen anime and were disappointed when it wasn't. For me, I'm glad that it wasn't. It offers something fresh and unique. While that won't be for everyone, saying that anything is 'overrated' just because you personally don't see the appeal while dismissing the qualities that people do like about it makes you seem pretentious.

Overrated is a word that had been overused lately, and should only be applicable for things like Twilight, in my humble opinion.
