Forums - Movies & TV - Star Wars: Episode VIII delayed to December 2017

This is a good thing.

With Rogue One supposedly being in the 2nd half of 2016, this leaves them more than enough time to build hype for VIII without saturating the market too much with 3 films released in the space of 18 Months.

You think so, but star wars VIII will now release on the same day as 'Ready player one' and one week before Avatar 2.

#StarWars biggest toy property last year with $700m in sales, @npdgroup says, more than Jurassic World, Minions and Avengers combined.

Obvious why they decided on December again.

This is a good thing. Rogue One was already planned for Dec 2016, so there'd only be six months between the hype trains (meaning you'd have literally 8 straight months minimum of Star Wars). This way they can build up hype every year for separate bursts and maximize the profit without turning too many people against it due to oversaturation. Plus Disney literally owns Christmas now - there is no holiday season at least every other year and at most every year, because Star Wars hype will reign supreme. Goddamn evil and goddamn genius.

You should check out my YouTube channel, The Golden Bolt!  I review all types of video games, both classic and modern, and I also give short flyover reviews of the free games each month on PlayStation Plus to tell you if they're worth downloading.  After all, the games may be free, but your time is valuable!

Cameron scared. ;)

They were never really going to launch Rogue One and Episode VIII within 6-7 months of each other anyway.

I think Rogue One is going to be huge too, it will be in the top 10 and so will Episode VIII.

One of two things happened here.
1) They realized they needed more time with the movie to make some finishing touches and to make sure it is absolutely ready.
2) They saw the Red Supergiant sized success of Episode VII was considerably due to being released in the holiday season and they want to take full advantage of that again for Episode VIII.
Or both.
Either way, I can wait. I loved Episode VII, it was my first Star Wars movie and it convinced me to go five the other 6 a go and really take interest in the series.
So I'm fine with the delay... Not sure about my uncle though. Him, my aunt, and their 2 kids are huge Star Wars fans, they're probably crying as we speak. lol

VII would've made monster money no matter when it was released.

All you need to do is release a Star Wars movie that doesn't have mannequins for lead characters and you'll make an avalanche of money.

That's probably for the best. We don't want such iconic movies to be released to close to each other.

Plus, as OneKartVita noted, it will probably release along a new Battlefront, which will help the game again. Hopefully this time they make is based on the new trilogy.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

I watched the force awaken's, but I didn't like it. So not really that hyped anyway... :/

Made a bet with LipeJJ and HylianYoshi that the XB1 will reach 30 million before Wii U reaches 15 million. Loser has to get avatar picked by winner for 6 months (or if I lose, either 6 months avatar control for both Lipe and Hylian, or my patrick avatar comes back forever).

I think the disappointment in this movie is causing them to rewrite the script. So, that's a good thing.
