Forums - Nintendo Discussion - [Updated] Can Mario kart 8 Surpass Super Mario Kart Sales-Wise?

So?

Yes! 69 49.29%

No! 35 25.00%

Maybe? 36 25.71%

Total:140

If you include digital, it might reach it.One extra year might be enough to sale an extra 1.5 to 2 million retail, and the digital could easily cover the rest

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

No way, it'll probably end up somehwere betwen 7-8 million.

It might if we include digital. Which I'd imagine will be over 7 million when Nintendo posts their numbers ending December 31st...... when will they do that by the way?

I think it is Feb. 2, 2016 Third Quarter Earnings Release.

You will be able to see it here:    https://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/en/sales/software/wiiu.html

I don't think so.

Also, sorry to ask, did MK8 pass Double Dash yet?

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

It will be very very close - MK8 for sure can do 8.5m!
In 2015 it sold 2.2m. It just needs the same sales number in its remaining life like it had last year.
I think MK8 can do it.
Yes, MK8 can (including digital sales!) surpass SMK - given that 6.5m by end of 2015 is not overtracked.

Based on the September 30th update it was at 5.87 million according to Nintendo (I do believe this includes digital).

Adding up all the weeks that VGChartz have listed since then brings it to just over 7.2 million (not counting for digital since Sept 30th).

If VGChartz is even remotely close in those numbers we are A LOT closer to Super Mario Kart than most would think. I don't see how it doesn't pass it as it's still being bundled with a lot of consoles currently.

I think it'll crack the 9 million mark barring what might happen with the NX this year.

In Europe it is close to beating MK-N64!
1 - Mario Kart Wii - 12.79
2 - Mario Kart DS - 7.52
3 - Mario Kart 7 - 3DS - 3.69
4 - Mario Kart 64 - 1.94
5 - Mario Kart 8 - WiiU - 1.91
6 - Mario Kart: Double Dash!! - GC - 1.77
7 - Mario Kart: Super Circuit - GBA - 1.64
8 - Super Mario Kart - SNES - 1.24

*According to VGChartz:
http://www.vgchartz.com/gamedb/?page=1&results=200&name=mario_kart&platform=&minSales=0&publisher=&genre=&sort=EU

EDIT! US numbers:

  1.  - Mario Kart Wii - 15.78
  2.  - Mario Kart DS - 9.77
  3.  - Mario Kart 64 - 5.55
  4.  - Mario Kart 7 - 3DS - 4.57
  5.  - Mario Kart: Double Dash!! - GC - 4.12
  6.  - Super Mario Kart - SNES - 3.54
  7.  - Mario Kart 8 - WiiU - 2.99
  8.  - Mario Kart: Super Circuit - GBA - 2.62
The reason for Super Mario Kart SNES high sales are Japan (second most sold Mario Kart - MK Wii on third place in Japan)

No, but it will probably end up selling over 8 million physical copies eventually. Also I can't see any other game that wasn't bundled a lot come even close to the attachment ration MK8 has.
