Forums - Gaming Discussion - How will you approach the "next generation"?

Pretty much what the title says, knowing everything that's happened this gen, how will it affect your purchasing power next gen?

For me: I haven't been impressed with the Xbox One's first party offerings that much (in terms of quantity and genre). I'm liking Son'y approach this generation for overall variety and Japanese support.

Therefore, I'm planning on maining a PS5 and maybe getting an Xbox Two for some of the exclusives.

I've tremendously enjoyed the 3DS and its offerings, so I plan on getting a next handheld day one; knowing Nintendo's handheld track record. However, on the opposite end of the spectrum, I've been very disappointed with the Wii U and its releases. Meaning I'll wait to get a Nintendo console, much further down the line.

Anything you regret you did this gen (so far)?

For me it was buying all three consoles too soon. I found that I could have waited and saved money on some of them, since one, or two don't even get used much. Also, I don't plan on buying many new games at full price. I've now found it's better to wait for the patches, and wait for a discount days like today!

I know this thread is a little premature, but I don't see a problem with discussing how you will approach change for next time.

Disclaimer: This thread is based on the assumption that what Company A does this generation as percieved "good," will be carried on to next generation. I know this might not be the case, but it's a solid indicator of how to perceive future events. Thanks!

I'll probably buy both PS5 and NX day 1 cause I'm dumb. :P

I don't know how to wait, I just need to own my favorite consoles once they arrive, even if they have few games and high price. That's a curse.

I'll probably have to buy 2 PS5s along the gen as well, cause my Playstations always have technical problems after 3-5 years. My PS4 is already showing signs of death.

EDIT: I'll probably grab the Xbox 2 along the way as well for some exclusives.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

Getting Playstation is a no brainer.

I just got an X1 in the Black Friday deals, so if I enjoy my time with the console I will be interested in the next one also, as long as MS don't try pulling anything dodgy.

I still like Nintendo home consoles, but I will not be buying it early this time, as I think there will be droughts once again.

May be done with handhelds.

Actually, The Wii U was my most satisfied console buy ever. And Xenoblade Chronicles X soon coming it couldnt be better. I have also a huge gaming log on Wii U virtual console, like xenoblade Chronicles, also enjoying all the great games on Wii U so far, i havent bought a PS4 or a xbox one, both of them have some good games. But i guess im just gonna go with Nintendo

Like I did this generation. Upgrade my gaming PC, buy my Nintendo handheld, wait for the consoles to get enough games that I am interested in and buy them at discounted prices. I had a 3DS since 2012, bought my PS Vita this summer, and bought my Wii U last week. I will be getting a PS4 toward the end of next year probably (when all the games release that I am interested in besides Bloodborne.) So far I am quite satisfied with what I have though, and if I am too busy I might just not get a PS4 at all until I have time.

Getting a Playstation is an absolute must, will wait for Nintendo to be cheap if there's games that I want.

I'm throwing all logic out and just getting the NX on day 1 if possible, unless the product seriously sucks. I never bought a console day 1, and I would like to do it at least once... x )

I will buy NX, but not until it has an original exclusive Zelda or Metroid, and maybe if the 3D Mario looks spectacular. Will also buy PS5 at some point after launch so they can iron out any hardware-problems.

PS day one, maybe the others on some mega sales bundle, aka console and 5 games for under 300 or of the back of a truck.

Probably nothing really different..

I only get games that I want and usually wait for a sale rather than getting it day 1 in order to save money

I guess my regret for this gen is that I bought 2 games at impulse and it wasn't worth it :p
