Forums - Politics Discussion - Turkey shoots down Russian warplane - 1 Russian marine confirmed death, 1 pilot confirmed death

Bolded added/edited by myself as news comes in

The Turkish military has reportedly shot down a Russian military aircraft on the border with Syria.

Russia's defence ministry said an Su-24 had crashed on Syrian territory after being hit by fire from the ground.

But Turkish military officials said Turkish F-16s had shot down the plane after repeatedly warning its two crew they were violating Turkish airspace.

The crew ejected before the jet crashed in Latakia province, but Syrian rebels said at least one was dead. This seems to have been confirmed following multiple videos showing the same death pilot.

The death Russian pilot seems to be Major Rumyantsev Sergei Aleksandrovic (possibly wrong), a pilot of Su-24M aircraft (serial No. 0715323). Videos and pictures are going around which are said to be showing his body, I will not be linking these as these might not be allowed by VGChartz's rules, but they should be easy to find for everyone.

Video said to be showing FSA forces destroying a Russian rescue helicopter using a TOW missile. 1:30 is where the helicopter gets destroyed.

FSA has "gunned down" both pilots as they were descending using their parachute:

This is a war crime

Article 42 outlaws attacks on pilots and aircrews who are parachuting from an aircraft in distress. Once they landed in territory controlled by an adverse party, they must be given an opportunity to surrender before being attacked unless it is apparent that they are engaging in a hostile act or attempting to escape. Airborne troops who are parachuting from an aircraft, whether in distress or not, are not given the protection afforded by this Article and, therefore, may be attacked during their descent.

10 warnings were given to the Russian warplane before it was shot down:

Turkish fighter jets shot down a Russian warplane near the Syrian border on Tuesday after repeated warnings over air space violations, but Moscow said it could prove the jet had not left Syrian air space.

A U.S. military spokesman confirmed that Turkey warned the Russian pilots repeatedly before shoot down, but they did not respond, Reuters news agency reported.

We were able to hear everything that was going on, these (communications) were on open channels,” military spokesman Colonel Steve Warren said.

Asked if he could confirm reports 10 warnings were issued by Turkish pilots without response, Warren said: “I can confirm that, yes. He added it was not immediately clear on which side of the Turkish-Syrian border the Russian jet had been flying.

Uh oh, Turkey, you messed up.

Well... Russia fights ISIS. Now we see that Turkey supports ISIS. The main reason is obviously the oil business of Erdogan and ISIS guys.

The main question now is what will NATO be doing. Which side will it take, Russian or ISIS?

If they speak the truth about the aircraft entering Turkish airspace: not really, shooting it down would be completely in their right.

At the speeds the plane was going it wouldnt have been in turkey long. They could have given a warning and excorted the pilot out. Clearly this attack was because russia was bombing turkey's syrian rebel allies.

They have the legal right and we saw this comming for months now but a russian pilot is dead and general hostility between russia and nato will crank up even more.

Eh, Russia isn't going to do anything about it. Turkey's NATO.

Honest to goodness I support Turkey's actions. Russia is bombing non-ISIS Syrian rebels who are fighting Assad. Assad's a bit of a flaming douchebag, to say the least.

This is bad...oh boy

I cannot imagine toilet-free life.

Kebabs have a unique attribute compared to other consumables. To unlock this effect you need to wolf down a big ass kebab really fast, like under 10 minutes or so and wait for the effect to kick in. If done correctly your movements should feel unbelievably heavy to the point where you literally cannot move at all.

Not only is Turkey in NATO, Turkey can also completely cut-off the Black Sea https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Montreux_Convention_Regarding_the_Regime_of_the_Straits#Development_of_the_Convention_since_1936

"In April 1982, the Convention was amended to allow Turkey to close the Straits at its discretion in peacetime as well as during wartime."
