At the speeds the plane was going it wouldnt have been in turkey long. They could have given a warning and excorted the pilot out. Clearly this attack was because russia was bombing turkey's syrian rebel allies.
They have the legal right and we saw this comming for months now but a russian pilot is dead and general hostility between russia and nato will crank up even more.
