Forums - Sony Discussion - Digital Foundry: Hands-on With PS4's PS2 Emulation (Confirmed)

I'm totally cool with buying a handful of my favorite PS2 games again on the PS4 ad long as the pricing is decent.

I only ever bought one PS2 classic on the PS3 because it was missing a ton of games though.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the PS4 doesn't read DVDs... Only Blu-Rays.

So there goes using your old PS2 discs to emulate them on the console.

I am correcting you. You are wrong.

Haha sorry about the tone, just couldn't pass that up. But anyways, the PS4 will read DVDs just fine. CDs even.

That's nice to hear then. I was sure I read somewhere that the PS4 is Blu-Ray and CD only. xD

So everything's possible then! :D

Wait a minute... Sony fans have told me BC is s move done out desperation. What does this mean?

Seriously though, great news. I still dabble in PS1 and PS2 games. Good games dont expire.

What some Sony fans say doesn't = all Sony fans.

Although I would personally consider BC to PS3 would've been nice at launch but a bit late for it now and it would be irrelevant (to me)

PS1/2 emulation I'd be down with however.

Hopefully this feature arrives soon! I can't wait to play some old games.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

SOCOM II + online switch turned back on = no need for any other console for me

BC doesnt/didnt matter when Microsoft started doing that. I hope the same people that said that about Xbox One BC, keep that same stance here

I am really happy to see this and I would be absolutely ecstatic to see this announced at PSX. I would be thrilled if Sony had a system akin to Microsoft's system where I could put a disk from my very sizable PS2 collection into the PS4 and it would register that I own the game, so I could download it for free.

The higher internal resolution, post-processing, and higher frame rate are super nice improvements. While PCSX2 does exist, it requires a reasonably beefy computer to run all PS2 games well -- and even then, it's a case by case basis whether or not the game actually works (I was super disappointed when I tried to play Up Your Arsenal with my friend with PCSX2 and the textures were basically non-existent).

The Emotion engine is complicated, so I figure Sony has some upper hand when it comes to emulating it.

There's a massive difference between Xbox BC and PS BC. The PS1 and PS2 Iibrary are just insane. That said it won't matter all that much since most of the big games have already had an HD port.
