Forums - Sony Discussion - PlayStation 4 Can Benefit More From Backwards Compatibility Than Xbox One

BC would be good, but i dont think i will play to much old games with all great new games coming relentless.
Why buy a new console to play old games, i hardly play a game older than 5 years, and many of the greatest games in my memory were played before that 5 years mark

No thanks to Netflix on my PS4.  If I wanted to watch a movie, I still have my VCR and DVD player that i could break back out.  Nobody else could possibly find this feature even slightly useful.

I'd be fine with that disappearing as well, as i never use most of the features of my gaming consoles, outside of playing this gens games. I have Amazon Prime, and i have only used that streaming service maybe 4 or 5 times, over the past few years. My tv is a smart tv, so i can do Netflix and such on it, or also on my blu-ray player, if needed.

There are tons of features that some people would find useful, but you have to look at what is your best outcome for profit. Sony has no need to add BC, as they console is still selling like hotcakes, after 2 years. MS on the other hand, is in a situation where they have to do anything they can to please even a small percentage of their customers

Mine TV is, too. It was just an analogy.

Does your bluray player play DVDs? Let's just that one instead.

Im not arguing its not possible, Im arguing Sony doesent care to add BC because they simply dont care. Youre right, Sony is driven on profits not fan requests.

MS could have brought BC ealier? Was the emulator ready before 2015?

Sony could be bringing good games to PS4. But they simply arent ready. It takes years to do that apparently.

'simply dont care' yes because it's easy to pin down decisions buy billion dollar conglomerates to 'don't care' You come off as really irrational.

Every company is driven off making money, you're smart enough to know that. Microsoft now is what sony were last gen.
Free online, ps plus free games etc.
Because they were the underdogs. Now MS are the underdogs....SURPRISE :O
EA Access free games, BackCompat

it's business at the end of the day, user retention, install base etc. and doesn't boil down to whether a company is 'lazy' or 'doesnt care'.

Yes, they could've, if they really wanted to. But they need people buying the consoles at this point moreso than the software, so they pile on the value-added services. A company as smart as microsoft could figure it out in a matter of days, it's their own effing hardware, if anyone knows it, they do.

Well the last line makes you look like a troll. Which is a shame as how you seemingly seem to come off as rational. Oh yeah how was the first 9 months for xbox one retail exclusives again? Oh yeah screamride, excellent game (psst not an exclusive)}
GG

Sony did free online because MS hadnt yet proven millions would pay for it. Sony released PS3 assuming it would be a success.

PS Plus on PS3 was nothing without free games. It was also the first step in charging for online play. Sony fans genuinely believed Sony would never charge for online play.

EA Access wasnt done as a move against Sony. EA wanted it on both platforms but Sony was probably afraid it would impact PS Now, PS Plus, etc. PS4 owners want EA Acess but Sony doesent.

Alot of people assume BC only happened because Xbox One is the underdog. But it could have happened regardless. With BC MS can also make money selling 360 games on X1. Sony made PS Now to make money on PS3 games.

The last line is my personal disappointment with PS4. Im literally waiting for good exclusives on PS4 that isnt more Dark Souls. I will buy a PS4 probably early next year.

Yes it does play dvd's. I haven't bought a dvd since blu-rays came out, though. Dvd players don't play VHS. Out with the old, in with the new.

You haven't bought a DVD but if you suddenly felt like watching your old DVD of goidfellas, wouldn't you appreciate being able to just pop in the disc you already own?

I may not buy another 360 game but I literally own hundreds of titles. They aren't as technically advanced as my 8th gen titles but they are still fun, right?

The title should read "PlayStation 4 GAMERS* Can Benefit More From Backwards Compatibility Than Xbox One GAMERS*."

PS1, PSX, PS2 & PS3 full libraries even Japan only games coming soon. Soon we will be able to play any game ever on PS console that we missed on PS4! ;) WOOOOOOOOT

I still have a PS2 & PS3 that plays PSX/PS1 & PS2 games too. Also have my PS4. I have sooo many games on my PS3 I have not completed yet, but can hardly put down my PS4 games to play my PS1, PS2, PS3 games. BC means nothing to me. Although PS Now is kool because I can play a game I missed or never owned if I want it is there.

I bet that by February-March 2016 all this backwards compatibility praising will die out since very few people actually care about it. Most gamers play new games on their consoles.

I truely believe streaming is the future of console gaming..... so PS NOW is a huge advantage for sony, all they need is to let players play games they digitally downloaded streamed through now for free as long as they have ps plus.... and BC would not be an issue....

Jill: "Hello everybody, today Bob is here to present us something groundbreaking. Applause to Bob!"

Bob: "Hello Jill, nice to see you!"

Jill: "Hey Bob, nice to see you! So Bob, please tell us what you brought to us today."

Bob: "Jill, today I present you and the audience nothing less than.... THE FUTURE OF CONSOLE GAMING!"

Jill: "Bob, you do what?! No, this can't be true. I am soooo eager to find out what it is. What is it?!"

Bob: "Calm down, blondie, I will give you details on something *entirely* new..."

Jill: "Bob, please..."

Bob: "Shhhh... Fasten your seatbelts... I hereby present all of you Playstation NOWWWWW!"

Jill: "Playstation, did you really say PLAYSTATION? Omg, I can't hold it" *makes theatrallic moves*

Bob: "Yes, the new online only gaming service, invented by Sony!"

Jill: "Bob, did you just say online only?! That's awesome!"

Bob: "Yes, it is! No more complications putting discs in hardware, no more selling or buying used games! AT ALL!"

Jill: "Wow, that is so good! But Bob, what happens if my internet is off?!"

Bob: "What do you expect? Of course you can't play anymore because it's an online only service!"

Jill: "That is truly amazing!"

Bob: "It is but there is even more, Jill..."

Jill: "Wait, there is even more? That isn't possible..."

Bob: "It is! Not only can't you play while being offline but due to it being an online only service, you even have added controller input delay!"

Jill, almost shedding a tear: "Wait, they also have added input delay? How is that even possible?!"

Bob: "Because of the magicians at Sony, of course! And not only that, Jill...

Jill: "Bob, don't do this to me..."

Bob: "PS Now also makes the IQ worse for being sub-native on your screen!!1!!"

Jill: "Oh My God, Bob. Oh my god. We have gaming now online only, with added controller input delay AND sub-native resolution on TV? Awesome! But Bob, doesn't this sound suspiciously just like the Xbox One from Microsoft (boo sounds from the off when Microsoft was mentioned)?!"

Bob: "You might think it is but we made it even worse - You even have artifacts on your screen because of the awesome compressed video we send you on your TV!"

Jill: "You send compressed video? On our TVs? How the hell is that even possible?"

Bob: "And even better, dumb chicken, we make the image quality even worse when your internet is bad!!"

Jill: "That's absolutely amazing, Bob, absolutely amazing. So let me summarize what PS Now is

- We have online only

- We have added controller input delay

- We have worse IQ than ever before

- We can't really buy games anymore, only rent them

And all of this in one service!?"

Bob: "Yes, Jill, welcome to the FUTURE OF GAMING, brought to you by Sony, Greatness awaits!"
