Forums - Nintendo Discussion - My thoughts on "Star Fox Zero's graphics look bad"

It looks worse than that. This is Star Fox assault upscaled. All the textures have been untouched:

This is a similar scene in Zero:

Assault looks better. It's not just the graphics.

Assault has more going on on screen in this scene, but in terms of graphics I still think Zero looks better. The lighting and skybox are considerably nicer.

Also, isn't that a 1080p shot of Assault versus a 720p shot of Zero?

I chose that scene to highlight the way the ships are designed. I disagree that the sky box looks better, but I agree that the lighting is obviously nicer. Overall though, I think Assault looks way better. I actually think that a busier Zero would look worse, not better, because it would show off more just how bad the ships look.

Both pictures are 1080p, at least in terms of size, though Zero could just be upscaled from 720p like a lot of Nintendo's other games. Star Fox Zero just has really bad aliasing, but I don't care about aliasing. MK8's and Zelda U's aliasing are just as bad, and they blow Zero out of the water.

Im not going to defend the graphics of star fox zero. But I will say that picture reminds me of how much I hated the design or the arwing in starfox assault.

I loved it lol yeesh.

I expect the main display for Starfox Zero will be 720p with no AA, just like Mario Kart 8, Splatoon, and indeed Platinum's own Bayonetta 2.

I like both Arwings designs myself; Assault's was a cool novelty, while Zero's more classic look hits my nostalgia chord.

I've yet to hear anything positive about the gamepad usage. Wish they'd ditched that and just made it look better instead.

I think that's the general consensus among gamers.

I don't care what it looks like, it's fucking Starfox. I'm cool with it.

I'm in this camp as well. The graphics look fine, the gameplay looks pretty fun and unique and we are finally getting a new Starfox game after all these years. I think it'll be a blast.

I could be wrong, but I'm guessing that this game is going to be the new Splatoon around here. Not in sales, but in the way everyone thought it was going to be awful and then the opposite happened. If people REALLY think Nintendo is going to release a shitty version of a marruee IP like Starfox, they're crazy. They'd cancel it before that ever happened.

fireburn95 has a point, the game would be better recieved if they'd just gone with regular controls and used the extra horsepower to make it look like this:

(Excuse the poor image quality, I can't find a native resolution one that's not horribly compressed)

This screenshot was from Bayonetta 2 though

I'm genuinely curious as to what convinced you that he didn't know this already.
