Forums - Sony Discussion - Will Sony Treat Rise Of The Tombraider As A Relaunch?

If Sony relaunched Tomb Raider, they would send a message that they would relaunch future titles that take the Xbox One timed exclusives agreement. This is not a message Sony wants to send. Sony should just leave the game in developers hands, as they seem to think they have a pretty good grasp on things. Squares can use their Microsoft exclusive $$$ to relaunch the title if they are serious about the franchise.

It is SE's burden, not Sonys. Don't see why they would give a crap about it.

Depending on how well Playstation VR is received early next year, it will be all about either expanding or keeping VR alive. There will be exactly zero $ allocated to push a game that is old and forgotten by fall next year.

Next year will be insane in terms of exclusive releases on the PS4 and surely that will mean Sony will be splashing out big for those games. I doubt very much Sony has the time or money to help out with RotTR. This game will be a tough sell next year as you still have:

UC4, Deus Ex, Mass Effect, Mafia3, R&C, COD, Far Cry, SFV, GT Sport, Hellblade, Horizon, TLG, Star Ocean 5, Nier 2, GR2 and others.

In addition there will be all things VR.

The year after we already have:

FF7, Shenmue3, TF2, COD, something new from Sucker Punch, a new GOW and others we don't know of yet.

This game will sell well on both X1 and PS4 once they drop the price to £25-30. People will buy it as purchase along with another game they pick up our in between games.

I would not be surprised, if they worked with SE to add new content. If Sony has leeway (and the agreement with MS will certainly factor in), I'd expect a targeted campaign.

1080p version with extras and dlc on disc is coming for PS4 next year.
but i have no interest. Uncharted 4 is coming in march 2016 <3

Hey more adventure is always better.  PS4 owners just get twice as much.

I am Iron Man

So many opinions! I've got to say I find the whole idea of Sony 'punishing' SE a little daft. Sony have many deals with SE at the moment with games like Nier, Star Ocean and Dragon's Quest and Sony helping SE to get Tombraider up in sales would be met very positively and cement a relationship that could rival that on the PS2. If Sony go that extra mile then it's even more certain that SE will offer the PS4 more exclusives in the future.

The PS5 Exists.

The only deal I see is TR 2013 being given away for with free with every copy of RotTR for PS4 owners, or at least via PS+.

If I were Sony I would stick it on PS plus straight away and strike the kind of deal with SE that would shadow the previous one with MS. Obviously it would mean an enormous amount of cash, so it will never happen but hey, we are thinking big right?

Value to Sony of this title will be pretty low and they are more likely to ignore it I think. Many people will not buy it due to the previous exclusivity and age by then I reckon. SE will lose a bucketful of sales as those second-hand pickups after Xmas will be huge and dig into profits.

I think Square should compensate Playstation users one way or another for the waiting time. Free DLC, upgraded graphics, anything that makes this late version the definitive edition.

Not because they have to be on the good side of Sony, but most importantly because they HAVE to be on the good side of us gamers, which at the end of the day are the ones opening our wallets to spend our hard earned money to buy their games.
