Forums - Gaming Discussion - The End Is In Sight! VGC Let's Play: Tales Of Symphonia!

I'd be up for one of these for a R&C game

Don't own Tales of Symphonia, and it sounds like a real time sink. Maybe we could do ToD sometime . I'd definitely join on that. The downside with it not being as long though is of course that it will be over rather soon, while on the other hand, it may not seem like such a daunting task, and thus you might have more people wanting to join.

I enjoy reading this though

Platina, I may not think Symphonia is a good game, but you have really done well with your updates. Much respect.

Thanks! I might be a bit too excited about this game, but I'm glad people enjoy reading these posts! :D

Sorry for my comment. Sadly, I'm not motivated enough to play this game again.Honestly my most favorite tales series that I played at least twice or three times are Tales of Destiny 2 and Tales of Abyss. Love their story and character development. The rest are just normal for me and full of cliches. But of course the gameplay gets better for every Tales Series. I hope someone start's a thread like this but the game will be "Tales of Zeristria". Cause I'm about to start to play that game. Just a suggestion. :D

Nice! When will you be playing through that?

Also apologies for the slight delay. We're letting people catch up before progressing further.

Part 3: Across The Ocean

So last we spoke we were just outside the Ruins, ready to get some new goodies. Nothing can possibly go wrong in a ruin, now, can they? I disagreed so decided to change playable character. After messing around with Kratos and Raine for a little, I decided it was still a little premature for me and returned to the portable home I call Lloyd.

As for the dungeon itself, simplistic enough. One corridor, one room, three entrances and the aim of the game is to raise or lower platforms. A sneaky Mimic chest caught me off guard, he was too tough to fight sadly so he can hold on to his treasures for a little while longer. Aside from that, having a dedicated healer in the team is a massive boon. Platforms raised, treasures plundered, onto the boss! A strange dog like fire thingy with a couple of underlings; dispatched without too much difficulty. Though, it is ramping up.

So now The Chosen prays and receives some wings for her trouble. Pretty neat, right? Comes with a nifty new art too, even if it does take a while to load. Our next stop is a port city called Palmacosta, but how to get there? Regrouping in the nearby town and progressing onwards through a trail. Upon entry a strange assassin like woman appeared to cause trouble, but she fell down a hole. How unfortunate! I almost feel bad for her...

Progressing further through the Ossa trail was uneventful, however little forest spirits with squeaky voices do grate. We catch up with our purple assassin down the road and her circular associate. A tricksy fight as she packs a punch, but dispatched. We'll be seeing more of her...and looking at the OP, and having played the sequel, it seems we'll see her quite a bit more.

Anyway we arrive now at a small fishing village. It seems people don't want to sail for monsters, but after persuading (or forcing?) a small fishing boat to make the crossing, uneventfully I stress, we arrive at Palmacosta and our latest destination. You really get a feel for the size of the place, and the thug life I appear to be leading as I bump into a group of ruffians near immediately. I'll get you a replacement for your broken drink I promise!

But, not now. Now we rest in the inn and get ready for another adventure tomorrow! One quick note, as time has gone on and new arts unlocked, the battle system has improved exponentially. Shame the camera hasn't though!

I guess I'll stop being lazy, time for part 2

So last time, we finished right before going home at the entrance of Iselia Forest, we discover Noishe is a coward and that Genis has a friend at the Human Ranch of Iselia, basically a place where Desians treat  people as slaves.

Marble (Genis' friend) gets caught slacking off while talking to us, so we save her from them, with some problems, but it all end well, right?

Lloyd gets home, where we discover that her mother was killed by Desians, that gives motivation to our protagonist to follow Collete on her journey, we also get to talk to the rest of the party that came to visit us.

The next day we get late to see Collete off, she gave us the wrong time, suspicious, while thinking about catching up to her, Desians attack the village, oh no!

Feels happen, and we leave the village in search of Collete, we were told by Collete's grandma that she was heading to the desert of Triet, we get there and after some directions, we get caught by Desians, we meet a mysterious blue haired dude and the party as well, all back together yay, after a boss fight, we are finally all together ready to take on the Seal of Fire, and that is it for now.

On to Part 3, the Seal of Fire.

One thing that I love of this game is that every dungeon has its own puzzles is something that I don't see in most RPGs so I always found it a nice bonus to make dungeons more enjoyable and unique.

That being said, the Triet Ruins is designed with 3 entrances and in each one you need to use the Sorceress' Ring to lift platforms, be careful with them cause you may miss some chests! but if you leave the ruins before completing them, the platforms reset so that is nice.

I also like the memory gems, basically you need these from an specific enemy to unlock the save circle in said dungeon, is like a nice extra challenge.

We fight a boss, we talk to Remiel again and Collete gets pretty wings, but she gets sick because of it :( , is the path she must endure for world regeneration.

Our next destination is the water seal, so we need to go across the ocean, but first we need to go to Ossa Trial to get to Izoold to get the ship to go to Palmacosta, phew.

In Ossa Trial we meet an assassin(code name: best girl) that wants the chosen dead, she falls on a trapdoor (poor her), but she seems to be fine as we get to fight her in the end of the trial, while one of the game's best tracks plays in the background.

After beating her, she escapes and we finally get to Izoold, we get the ship and get to Palmacosta, we run into a group of people and broke some Palmapotions, and now we need to repay them, yay and that is it for the third update.

Cloud's Log: Day 4

It's been awhile since I last talked about Tales of Symphonia, including something I COMPLETELY FORGOT ABOUT in my last log: The Ossa Trail

The Ossa Trail: The Clumsy Assassin

Now, I loved this game as a child and I regard it as my favorite Tales game, but it has been awhile. I didn't even remember Sheena, one of the playable characters, was such a klutzy goofball character, seriously...

Okay, so you meet a ninja, which even the game regards her as 'Clumsy', who has the worst luck, and is silly to boot. She tried to kill Collete: The Chosen One, but Collete trips and activates a conveinently placed trap set right next to her, via a lever. This causes Sheena to fall in it. She doesn't die, but serious, come on. A Ninja falling into a pit so easy? Please...

Anyways, you continue on the trail and Sheena catches up to you via a cave at the end. You fight her, and I disposed of her and her familiar rather easily. She runs away afterward, but you will see her many times. And next time, she wiiill kill the Chosen, don't you forget it... -_-;;;

Back to Palmacosta: The Palma Potion!

Back on track! I made it to Palmacosta, where I hit the shops and bought most of my gear! It's a nice fishing town, until I make my way into town, and our team bumps into another party of 4 at a corner. Collete causes these passerbies to drop a potion, which one of them were holding. Now responsible, I have to get them a new replacement, and no, I can't leave the town without finishing this... Anyways, the Palma Potion is a hot item in the town, and is rather pricy, so I have to do some work to get one. So off to that...

Tales of Symphonia Mini Games Fun!

This is a nice break from the game. To make money, you have to play as a waitress in a memory game. You play as Turbo Waitress Collete, and try to remember the orders of customers. At first, you start off with one, but it ranks up, and you have to remember up to 4 customers' orders. And they'll order a varying number of particular items, so try to remember it all! Do well enough, and you get paid, as well as a free Palma Potion, yes!!! x ) There is also a section with Genis, where he can challenge a smart boy to a test of wits with taking a test. As Lloyd, you are tested over trivia on the game, so it's nice it tests you on how much you were paying attention! It gives a funny cutscene as well. x )

Return the Slab Potion and Get the Book!

With that done, I give a new potion to the travelers I bumped back in the beginning, and they go on their merry way. As for my team, we go to meet the Mayor to get info on the next area, the Water Ruins. To do that, I need a book, so I go to the mayor, Dorr, to retrieve it. The problem is, someone else claimed it, the Chosen and her group. Uh-oh! I'm the imposter!? Actually, we prove ourselves as the real Chosen team with Collette's angel wings. But, where's the book? Mes got a feeling the people we bumped are the fakers O: Now, I mist give chase!

The Overworld, the Geyser, the Peak, and Trouble in Palma?! (Also, Fetch Dog)

Whew, this is a doosy. So, I have a new area to explore. I wonder around and first find myself in a small area with a boat ride and tour to a hot spring. I decide to try the boat ride for fun, which triggers another funny cutscene. Our cutey Raine is afraid of water, giving a cute "Wa-AAHH" scream. It was cute x ) So, we row to a geyser, which turns out to be the location of the water ruins. I can access it, but umm, I should be getting a book. So I left, but not without meeting Sheena, who is yet again lagging behind.

So I leave this resort in search of the book. I eventually find the peak where the fakers went, but surprise, they aren't there, and they sold the book to this dumb old man, who won't give it to me. He will let me LOOK AT IT if I give him a dumb statue... So I leave in search of this statue. Oh, also, there is trouble in Palmacosta, so I must go back there too...

Going back to Palmacosta to see what the trouble is, I follow the trail back when I find a House of Salvation, which surprise, Sheena is there again! At least we had a nice chat... I also find the statue the old man wants, but surprise again, that statue is also a fake, as the real one has been lost, but it's okay,  I will find the real one because it drives the story!!! T_T I am becoming a lap dog...

Anyways, I eventually go back to Palmacosta, and find the Desians attacked! I come to find that one character, a mother of a shop, is going to be hanged due to her daughter being rude to Desian soldiers before.

(Oh, I forgot to mention, there was a scene where Desians were trying to shop for items, but the daughter of the shop refused to sell to them, which caused this eventual scene)

So, my team and I save the mother about to be hanged, and fight the Desians. We save them and are thanked by the mother, daughter, and people I think..?

Anyways, I leave the town (before some shopping) and... go to the House of Salvation again? I find that the daughter was taken to a human ranch, and they want my help. Being the hero that I am, I decide to help. I go to the ranch to help them, but it turns out to be a trap to give the Desians Collette. We decide to attack the ranch anyways, because it's what heroes would do...

It's the Eeeeeeend~!

...And that wraps up my recap. Whew, I did a whole lot. Looking forward to continuing again x )
