I'd say around $300, but if they are only going to break even with the price, they must be confident the games will make the profit.

€300 I think that's a fair price for the device
Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar
I just can't wait tell we finally hear the price and release date. It won't matter if Sony is loosing $20 or $200 per unit, if the media and the gaming forums deem it to expensive, it will have an insurmountable amount of hate surrounding it (ex. Vita and XBO).
Sony was eating $240 a unit when PS3 launched, and that had full B/C and a Blu-ray player that out performed $1500 units at the time, and recieved the Java and 3D updates later on, which no other year one player recieved. So that just goes to show how little people care about the value of a product, or wether they are getting their moneys worth. Also see iPhone ~$200 to build, people pay ~$800.
All I hope is things don't end up irrational. Sony and the other VR companies need to get this stuff out in Walmart, Best Buy, Target, Gamestop etc. before they announce a price. They need to make sure, to the best of their ability, every gamer out there has experienced this and understands just what this is. I don't want to see a melt down and and abortion of these products by the gaming community before they are even born.
At 1080P, with 18ms response time, a 100 degree feild of view, and 3D sound, this thing is worth more than a TV in actual value. Then with the fact that it can give you a theater experince in your home with a simulated 120" display for all of your non VR gaming and video content, this thing is well worth north of $1000. But, I think it will be more like;

$249
Anyone care to do a realistic breakdown of components? Presumably the most expensive thing is the two 5" 1080p OLED screens. I don't see those costing much more then $100 combined.

it's just one 1080p screen, but rgb oled with 120Hz capabilities, that's not a standard display

But those will get far more use than a vr headset, at least in most peoples homes.
most important thing is that it will still be much cheaper compare to Oculus to work with a compatible PC...
Well, I already saved €900 in the '90s by not buying the VFX1-helmet (the technology and software support weren't good enough back then), so anything up to €500 now is good enough for me (if the VR experiences are good and the HUD ain't uncomfortable). ;)
But if the VR systems are much cheaper, I ain't complaining. ;) Since I haven't decided between VR on PS4 or VR on PC yet, I'd love if the PSVR would support both, but I doubt it... so I probably wait until all cards are on the table (hardware reviews, prices and software support for PSVR, Oculus Rift and SteamVR/HTC Vive) and then decide for one of them.

Yes, correct, most propably. Although i don't use the TFT that often anymore and i can't say how much time i'll spend under a VR headset. Maybe i'll dive into virtual reality and never come back. Or i use it for about 10 min. throw it into the corner afterwards and never touch it again.
