Same article:
"Revenue from Halo 5's microtransactions is likely even higher than $500,000. That's because only a "portion" of REQ bundle sales went to the Halo World Championship. However, the exact percentage split between funds that Microsoft keeps and money that goes to the Halo World Championship is unavailable."

So basically we are still clueless.

If it's anything like the Smite treasure chests, which contributed $0.50 per treasure chest to competition prize money pools that $500K still translates into a negligible total when compared to the $400 million total. It's unlikely to be more than $2.5 million total Req pack sales, and it will possibly be less. OTOH, if the contribution from req pack sales is capped at $500K then it tells us nothing of any value. Once the $500K has been reached we have no clue about req pack sales beyond that. Do we have any further infomration that might help to clarify this?

As far as I know, the official press release only said that a part of the proceeds would go towards the prize pool. Like you said though, the revenue from REQ packs is probably negligible, between 2 and 3 million tops. I think the important factors here are:

*How much did the bundle sell

*How many special/limited/collector's editions were sold

and *This is probably revenue from shipped copies and hardware, not sold through, because MS generates the revenue when they sell stuff to retailers, not when retailers sell stuff to consumers.

Repost from other thread for exposure.

I think it sold around 3.8m.
~350m= 5.2m Halo 3 for just software.
~400m has some subtractions from hardware and microtransactions.

A year ago Halo sold 60m. The franchise got 5bn with Halo 5. Without Halo 5 it is 4.6bn.
Using proportions we get 5bn x 60m / 4.6bn = 65m
That suggests 5m but it is obviously less due to Halo sales within a year and the PR suggesting it is both hardware and software this time.

So my rough guess is 3.8m-4m

Wong. It grew to 65million when halo mcc launched.

Leads to more accurate numbers then.

5bn x 65m / 4.6bn= 70.6m

5.6m. Definitely to high.

Halo 4 is over 10 million as well I thought.

Edit: I see that you used vgchartz data. They stopped tracking the game after a while. It is easily over 10 million by now. Hell, it is probably around 12-13 million right now.

Where did you get that from?

I think hes making those numbers up lol. Halo 4 is around 9.5million

With digital sales, it could be over 10 million.

If halo 4 has 500k digital sales that would be the best selling last gen game digital.

No it is not.

The only Halo that officially crossed 10m is Halo 3 with about > 14.5m including ODST... stop to use useless VGC's data.

The second best seller Halo is Reach that can have sold over 10m but MS never confirmed so it can be below 10m too.

Halo 4 did less than both Halo 3 and Reach.

Yes they did, Halo 4 and Reach already surpassed 10 million with digital included.

Proud to be a Californian.

But but but...it's the slowest selling in the UK. It flopped. Halo is going downhill. It's already peaked!

All those are true, don;t count your chickens before they are hatched bnased off shady PR.

Halo would need to have pulled off something very differnt from other games that have launched the last past few years then.

Because other games of the same genre dont do 40% of sales as digital.

Its extremly unlikely that it sold that much digital. Basically its wishfull thinking.

I have 6 friends who all bought digitally so we could all play at exactly 11pm the night before release.  The trend will only grow and I bet it was massive for Halo because of that incentive.

LOL at the "My friends bought it digitally", digital sales are still a fraction compared to physical and halo is no different. Some embarassing posts in this thread, falling for MS PR.
