Forums - Nintendo Discussion - What was the point of the "New" 3DS?

Just another edition of a Nintendo handheld like we've seen in years past. Can't imagine why this time around would be any different. The only real difference is that they tried to sweeten the pot with making exclusive games for it.

An updated SKU for minimal better performance and resolution I think. And the main target is to reignite interest of people who wanted.a 3ds.

The main reason was to have a 3DS sku with Amiibo compatibility without needing an add on

The most correct answer.

But "all of the above" is also acceptable.

One thing we know for sure is that "improved 3D effect," one of the model's most noteworthy features, is not the reason, because Miyamoto convinced them to slap it on towards the end of its development.

I'm happy with it.  Faster menu performance, usable 3D effect, cstick, and extra shoulder buttons.

Money, simple as that. Same reason the DSi was released. Although DSi offered more than the original DS. All New 3DS Has in Xenoblade:( I wanted the New 3DS to be a Gamecube/PS2 port machine or even handle more Wii ports but I guess Nintendo didn't want to go that route.

The face tracking 3D was a godsend.

The new 3ds was just an upgrade, but it wasnt meant to be a leap from the 3ds.In my opinion, i find it better to play overall.(the grip is better, the screen is relatively bigger, etc). But to upgrade from your XL?No, it dosnt give enough reason.Better stick to it until the next handheld, which shouldnt be far off

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Feed of those who want to play Xenoblade because of Shulk, but can't find a Wii copy.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."
