Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Do you think Nintendo will somehow celebrate Metroid's 30th anniversary in 2016 besides Federation Force?

Don't expect Retro Studios is working on Metroid. We know that most of the staff that worked on Metroid Prime aren't with Retro Studios anymore. So in short, the Retro Studios of today has little to no experience with Metroid. Tanabe also confirmed that Metroid Prime 4 isn't in development. Unless Sakamoto has been working secretly on another main series Metroid game, I highly doubt that there's something coming anytime soon.

I know but I was wondering if Nintendo will do something else other than FF, to me it's so sad to see at every single anniversary Zelda getting the love it deserves while Metroid is just left in a storage room...

Well, this is Nintendo. They believe Federation Force will get the cheers of fans...

Well I don't recall Nintendo ever stating things like that in the past that didn't turn out to mean anything. They said they were still working on Pikmin, Pikmin 4 gets announced. Miyamoto said he wanted a Star Fox on the Wii U, we're getting a Star Fox on the Wii U. They said they were discussing ideas for both 2D and 3D Metroid, we're getting a (sort of) 3D Metroid.

About you though, I think the debate is pretty much over with that bold statement. This is me everytime I'm reading one of your posts:

In fact, now that I think about it, you do remind me a lot of Gligar13vids. Don't take it as a compliment.

Don't understand the connection to that NDT image. My quotes do prove me right, but that image is sarcastically calling me a badass? How does that end the debate? "Woah, he thinks he's soo cool just because he can correctly read and interpret quotes all the time." What?

My response was specifically to someone thinking that a quote near blatantly denying the then current developemental existance of MP4 was just Tanabe "trying to keep secrets," then you responded that I'm ignoring some mystical quote that somehow contradicts the Tanabe quote in a dubious attempt make it "convenient for my arguement." Then, when I bring up that exact quote and point out that I am not only aware of that quote, but that it doesn't at all imply that they've been working on a core game like MP4 and therefore does not count as an example for me "manipulating" anything, you dial back to say that they were probably just referring to Federation Force, "but still."

You say that Nintendo hasn't said things like that in the past that didn't turn out to mean something, something I based my entire original post you felt compelled to respond to on, except for when Tanabe explicitely implied that MP4 wasn't in developement yet as of that interview by clearly stating that they'd have to start "now" for the game to be out years into the NX, which is what spawned the discussion in the first place. You don't "recall" that, do you? That doesn't mean anything, does it? Sure, I'm the one forgetting things because its "convenient for my argument."

But me saying my quotes prove me right, when they do in fact prove me right, somehow ends the debate in your favor because of what, exactly? Or are you implying that I have an "insane ego" because I'm actually willing to be thorough in backing up my arguments? That having confidence in being correct after going into painstaking detail as to why I think I am is the same as being "insanely egotistical" and "considering all disagreeing parties stupid?" Is that the debate you're referring to?

Tell me, please, if it would instead be of more proper debate etiquette to make an argument, wait for someone to bring up a counter argument as someone always will, and then not try to prove you're right "on absolutely everything" out of fear of being labeled an ego maniac?

The new, improved, me: "2+2=4."

Somebody else: "No, 2+2=3."

The new, improved, me: "I guess we'll agree to disagree on this one. Don't want you thinking I'm an egotistical asshole after all, since I already proved I was right on the Earth being round this morning. Can't prove I'm right on absolutely everything, you know."

Should I roll dice on what I should and should not try and prove I'm right on? Should I try and give some opinions that I think are flat out wrong sometimes, just so that I can have a better right/wrong ratio, as opposed to what I thought everyone did, which is to only give an opinion and an argument on things we think we can back up? No, I'm fine with you sarcastically thinking I'm a badass instead.

I don't even know who that Gligar guy is, so I can't really take it as anything. Except that it's clearly not a compliment, as you've kindly hinted at.

But we're off topic, now.

OT: Federation Force isn't a great way to celebrate Metroid's 30th anniverary, but as far as I'm concerned, it's better than a Mario level editor.

Yes, with a new Samus LE amiibo.

e=mc^2

Gaming on: PS4 Pro, Switch, SNES Mini, Wii U, PC (i5-7400, GTX 1060)

While I would LOVE a celebration for Metroid's 30th Anniversary, I get the feeling that the year will belong to the Legend of Zelda. With Zelda Wii U coming out, it's going to be the 25th Anniversary all over again when Skyward Sword came out and all the attention went to that instead of the Metroid series.

O can see them doing the prime trilogy in hd or for the new 3ds.

Yes, of course they will. They're releasing Metroid Prime: Federation Force.

Oh, did you mean celebrate with a decent game?
Well I guess that's reserved for Zelda's 30th I'm afraid.

Have you played federation force?

Probably not. Metroid isn't a core franchise.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

June 2014: "So it has been a while since we released the last one and we're having discussions internally about what we can do next. So at this point we have two different types of Metroid games. We have the Prime style of Metroid game and we have the more traditional style of Metroid game. We feel that we do need to take care of both of these styles of play. And the hope is that at some point in the near future we'll be able to share something about them." - Shinya Takahashi, aka the boss of both Yoshio Sakamoto (creator of Metroid) and Kensuke Tanabe (producer of Metroid Prime)

June 2015: "I said this at the beginning, but I’m not involved in the 2D Metroid games that [Yoshio] Sakamoto works on." - Kensuke Tanabe, when asked whether Federation Force is the only Metroid game he's working on.

June 2015: "We also know that the best way to launch a (traditional Metroid game) is to surprise and delight them, to give them a launch date, in an environment like this let them play it vs. what other companies do which is to announce a project that you may not see for five, six years." - Reggie

The implications here are so obvious it pains me to see people whining about how Nintendo won't give us what we want. Sakamoto is currently working on a new 2D Metroid game. It will be revealed shortly before launch, because Metroid is more like Star Fox and less like Zelda.
