Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Halo 5 has a ROCK SOLID performance (Digital Foundry)

Sad they sacrified image quality that much and split coop just to reach 60fps

Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:

 PS4: 17m   XB1: 10m    WiiU: 10m   Vita: 10m

Sad that others are always sacrifizing gameplay quality just to have a prettier picture on the magazines.

For a first person shooter, especially one that is as multiplayer-centric and online focused as the Halo series, frame rate performance and overall stability during game play far outweigh any trivial downgrades in the resolution / visuals. Halo was never the most visually stunning series either. Not every game needs to be 1080p @ 60fps at all times if it means sacrificing performance and stability during game play.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

What NightDragon said.. I can't believe there are gamers who would disagree 😐

You really need to stop viewing your idea of what does and doesn't contribute to gameplay as being inherently superior to those of people that disagree ^^. Mocking opinions that don't line up with yours will just make people look down on your own.

60 fps with 1080p with these graphics at this scale is not possible on last gen hardware. And even if you take the lowest resolution that Halo 5 renders at, it is not possible to do so.

I'm willing to bet that it's at 1080p less than half the time (given it's constant 60fps framerate)

I definitely think 720p at 30fps with the same textures is possible on 360. I can't really say that about games like Arkham Knight, The Crew (with the same functionality), Bloodborne, Driveclub, Sunset Overdrive etc.

If that was possible then Halo 4 would have looked quite a lot better than it did. Even if Halo 5 was a full 1080p/60fps a port to the 360 would still require some graphical compromises past the performance cut. That's it's not locked, but dynamic, means it would require significant cuts.

Nevermind the factprs that Halo 4 is 3 years old.. and that was 343's first Halo game.

It being 3 years old doesn't really matter when it was released on a system that had been out for 7 (and Halo 4 is debatably still the graphical peak of the 360). Pretty much every bit of power that could possibly be squeeze out of the 360 had been. The fact of the matter is that there are times when the dynamic resolution makes it so that the X1 is playing Halo 5 at something similar to 720p/60fps. Unless you think the X1 is only twice as powerful as the 360, then it running at 720p/30fps on the 360 is simply impossible.

It does considering optimisation overtime and it being 343's first Halo game. Well you may debate that but I would say there are games that are far more technically impressive on 360.

30fps to 60fps isn't a means of just 'doubling the power' From games seen on there I don't think it's a stress to tone done lighting and particle effects, keep the textures and make it 720p 30fps. Might be my own bias when it comes to FPS shooters and it being difficult to make them seem technically impressive. If there was full on destruction or some next gen qualities like that then maybe I'd give it that but I just see a phenominal game but not super 'omg this is so next gen, no 360 could ever be anything close to this' kind of feel from it.

But that may just be me.
