Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Yacht Club is manufacturing and distributing the Shovel Knight amiibo

"(...)But what makes Shovel Knight different, as Nintendo confirmed that night, is that Yacht Club is manufacturing and distributing the Shovel Knight Amiibo, and Nintendo has simply granted the developer a license to put the Nintendo brand and the Amiibo name on the figure."

This is a very interesting scenario, looks like Nintendo is letting third parties to create their own amiibo for their games, we heard that Playtonic Games was highly interested in this so is pretty obvious that we will have a Yokay- Laylee amiibo sooner or later.

Now, this confirms that Nintendo has nothing to do with the content locked in the Shovel Knight amiibo, as this has been a decision from Yacht Club, and honestly, you shouldn´t be mad with YC at all, they have already delivered, they made one of the very best indie games this generation, they released it on Nintendo platforms almost a year before than the other consoles, they are now releasing an amazing free dlc that is almost a new game (Plague of Shadows) and we are complaining because now they want to release an exclusive dlc that is not free? As I said before, they have already delivered, they don´t work for free after all, and at least they are making a dlc in the coolest way they can, with a badass looking amiibo that Shovel Knight fans would love, and it will be compatible with all future Yatch Club games, so I don´t see the conflict, I think some people feel just to entiled tbh.

Keep telling yourself that, Nintendo knew exactly what kind of content the Amiibo was going to lock out. It's completely naive to think that there wouldn't be an approval process for the content, Nintendo is putting their name on this after all (when people see Amiibo, they think made by Nintendo).

I'm glad that Yacht Club has found such success and they're allowed to have such intimate relationship with Nintendo, but after beating Shovel Knight I can't really understand the fuss about the game. I merely found it okay. A nice platformer/adventure game, but that's pretty much it.

The amiibo looks badass indeed. The DLC does not.

What are you on about? Nintendo should start policing indies? That's what made them so unpopular with indies last generation. If Yacht Club wanted to make a non-amiibo NFC figure that unlocked exclusive content they could do it all by themselves, and that's actually what they did. Nintendo just gave them permission to call it an amiibo. I don't see a problem with that, the figure itself looks high quality, in fact it looks a lot better than many of the Smash Bros amiibo.

it's a DLC with a figurine, what's the problem now?

It was one of my favourite games last year, it is a bit inconsistent sometimes but overall the game feels great to me, gameplay is great, the art design and music is hardcore porn for retro-lovers, the bosses are super cool and most of the stages are smart and fun. Others are just fustrating, but nothing is perfect.

What about the people that don't give a damn about the figurine but want the DLC? What about the people that would want the DLC and would be willing to get the figurine for it but can't get it because of supply?

I honestly don't understand the hype for the game. I bought, and it was a huge let down. And it got a bloody 91 metascore!

As for the amiibo, have you considered how hard this amiibo will be to get (especially at MSRP)? Thus making it pretty much impossible to get for most people. And also why do YC get a free pass for having insanely overpriced DLC just because they made a good game? It's also kind of a shame because I think I would enjoy SK much more if I could play it co-op, but there's a snowball's chance in hell that this amiibo will be available anywhere close to me.

lol the thing is not even out, what about a problem that is not a problem because we don't know all the details and we don't know if they are going to release the content as a DLC. But ok, Nintendo the devil.

What about critizice supply problems once Yatch Club have supply problems?
