Bloodborne had a great first week, that does not mean is having good legs, I don´t think VGC is undertracking it a lot.

Not saying that I agree with the OP but didn't the developers of project Cars make a claim about selling millions of copies and people here called them out? 5m seems a bit much to me. I mean, super successful games take longer to sell that much. And sure, we all know they mean shipped, but still.

I would take their word on it. If they were caught lying about it, that would severely tarnish their credibility. Word of mouth in the video game industry is important and they don't they risk it over fluffing the numbers.

Dying Light on Steam has around 720K players. While it is the standard that games sell better on xbox one and PS4 than on steam...So yeah the 5 million can be true and should be true.

The only potential benefit of lying is that people are slightly more likely to play things if they think they're popular.

That very small factor will be massively overshadowed by the impending negative effect of when everyone finds out you lied and thinks you're a massive dick.
