Like anyone asked for 5 fire emblem characters, many of which are clones/unoriginal/based on the same kit (exception being robin, she's pretty awesome) but Lucina and Roy are completely unnessecary additions.  Slots that could have been used for more prolific characters that the majority of gamers actually care about like having King K. Rool actually in there, or maybe another Zelda character.  You know, prolific BIG franchises that the majority of gamers  can actually recongize/have ACTUALLY played their games?   There are 5 FE chars in SSB4, yet majority of gamers don't  know or care about the franchise in the first place.  I'm not hating, but it's ignorant and completely cock slapping the old nintendo fans that grew up playing DK:C on SNES.  Still no Ridley.  wtf. Also why is Lucas in there as DLC? LOL.  Instead we get Rool as a Mii outfit, unstead of getting him an actual slot....Like what is the point of Smash Ballot when the character that everyone wants the most doesn't even get into the game as  his own character

Also, considering how K Rool hasn't appeared in any of the modern DKC games, I'd argue that he isn't any more iconic compared to Dark Pit or Lucina, considering those two appeared in recent titles on the 3DS.

Ikr? Im not a fan of the amount of FE garbage in SSB either, but it's something you have to live with I guess I'd prefer to see more villains like K Rool or any other Nintendo villian. But yeah, I wasn't expecting just a costume for K Rool XD

Again, I like said, no one really cares for the franchise.  Sure it has fans and is getting better sales, but a lot of that is due to how much Nintendo shoves it down our throats in SSB.  Also you're forgetting the older gamers that grew up playig DK:C.  A game that was once the best selling game of the generation.   Ask any gamer who Rool is and then ask them who Dark Pit is.  I promise 9/10 would not know who Dark Pit is but most will at least remember Rool from DKC.  Uprising wasn't a great selling game and neither was awakening.  Also the games are 2-3 years old.  Not enough time as passed for them to become iconic (Which I doubt they will become in general)

Those "Instead we get" characters are A LOT easier to make than a completely unique character like K. Rool.

Lucina and Dark Pit were added literally last minute just as fanservice as the team had extra time. Lucas and Roy were mostly ported from their respective past games (with Roy having a bit of a different moveset to boot, but not that much), meaning less effort was put into them as opposed to an entirely new character.

Besides, why should K. Rool be in the game when other, more iconic characters like Slippy, Tails, Micaiah (that is if people don't mind too much fire emblem reps), Kamek, Dixie, Zero, and loads others should be in the game?

I rather see more franchises being represented before getting more characters from the same franchise.
