Forums - Microsoft Discussion - I really wish Microsoft invested into Phantom Dust or a new game rather than Rise of the Tomb Raider.

MS have no talent to make they own game period so they paid huge sum of $$$$ to get other game exclusive
(that show how they afraid of the competitor)

The problem is not talent! Their problem is,they just don't trust their "smaller" IPs as "profitable enough" franchises.

- Killer instinct was not released as a AAA $60 retail game, but as a "try pls see if you like it and then buy in pieces" 'cause they didn't trust the game would be a sucess as a 60$ game.

- Banjo kazooei nuts and bolts deviates completely from the platformer it was suposse to be because they didn't believe there was a market for it(they even joke with this in the fucking game)

- Instead of making a proper remake of conkers or a sequel, they just gave people some packs of assets on project sparks so people could literally make the game by themselves because, guess what, they don't believe there is a market big enough for this.

- Phatom dust reboot was an outsorced, really tight budget,single-playerless project that MS dropped the moment they saw they would have to actually put some money in the project, because AGAIN they don't belive it would reach whatever was their goal.

- And at last, phil hyped the shit up about a new proper rare game even by teasing people with battletoads t-shirt.Then,they announced a collection of old the games and a new MMO.What about battletoads teaser you may ask? it was a shovel knight dlc...

Exactly my thoughts ( and those of many if they are honest, most believed Banjo/Battleload/Conker would return, not just a collection of old games, most believed Microsoft would make a lot of new big IP's X1 exclusive before Black Tusk death to become Gears factory... )

They dont trust their big studios to make new games, Black Tusk was making 3 new AAA games but they just told them " ok it's better if you just forget all this work and just work on gears, safer " , same for 343i, when will wee see an other game than Halo from them ? Maybe they can make a RPG?TPS?...

It's said their studios are just " one game factory " ,  they have absolutely no trust in the potential of their owns studios to make new good IP it seems, only Lionhead can hope to do something else than Fable if the rumors are true.

Have you 2 thought that just maybe Rare does not want to redo old stuff.  There are a few interviews with the studio head where he states that the company does not want to just pump out sequels to stuff they already did but instead do something different.  Whether good or bad they do not want pump out the same old stuff they already did.   Maybe this is why Rare is coming out with Sea of Theves instead of rehashing an old game.

Crazy that people can talking about a company doing something different or coming out with a new IP then in the next breath condem them for not cashing in on old IP sequels.

It would be better to do old stuff than  F2P MMO... ( be honest, it's very very rare to have a good F2P MMO , even more rare to get one comparable to a quality game retail ( and evne digital ) game )

You mean same rehashes of games like Little Big Planet 3, Uncharted 4, GoW 3 remaster, The Last of Us remaster or Killzone (4) Shadow Fall? The only reason PS4 is way ahead is because of the blunders MS made when they announced their system. It's not because PS4 has way better games. If Tomb Raider does get "stomped" like you say it will be by games like Halo Guardians and Fallout 4 (with mod support only for X1). It certainly won't get stomped from the lack of any PS4 exclusives this holiday.

Yup, so that's a lie.

Umm no its not. They only said that they will "hopefully" or "eventually" be able to on PS4. Unless something has changed in the last day or so. Nothing is set in stone so when the game releases you'll only be able to do it on X1.

No, when the game releases you won't be able to do it at all.

It's modding for PC early 2016, modding for X1 sometime after that and for PS4 after that if Sony allows it. In 2015 nobody will legally be modding Fallout at all, definitely not on any console.

My issue with the Rise deal isn't the amount of money thrown at it for timed exclusive rights. My issue with the Rise deal is it once again showcases Microsoft not having enough trust for in house development of new IP. I am glad games like Quantum Break are due, along with what we got in Ori, but Microsoft needs more of them. Having only so much and relying heavily on deals such as Rise is good for short term gain, but not in the long run. As the OP has stated, where's games like Phantom Dust? Otogi? Sudeki? Lost Oddessey, The Last Remnant, Infinite Discovery, Mech Assault? The list just goes on and on; not even factoring in Rare either.

As a gamer, you want all of the big three to bring out their very best content. For Microsoft, I just wanted to have more new titles like ReCore to appear on the system. Instead, Microsoft plunged headfirst via $2 billion for MineCraft and now this. It can be irritating when you know Microsoft is capable of so much more but unwilling to seize the opportunity to do so.
