I always watch ads to support those youtubers making content. Shame on you guys.

Same. I want my views to help them so no issue for me. Besides if it is a long ad I just have multiple windows open and don't "have" to actually watch anything.  I did encounter an hour long ad for a 3 minute video which I found amusing.

I patreonise those who are worth it instead: CGPGrey, Pomplamoose, Minutephysics, Scishow, Tomska, Filmcow.

There are a couple of other channels I watch regularly which I am kind of on the fence about paying for (The Fine Bros, MyHarto). I also watch a few seananners vids and some vlog like content but however entertaining they are I don't think they are worth paying for.

*HIGH FIVE*

I watch the bolded as well.

It is all dependant on the uploader. The uploaded of the video can set types of ads. The small 5 seconds ones gives less revenue, but is less of an irritation for the viewer which should lead to more subscribers. And then the long ones that gives more revenue but could damage the reputation of your channel. You can set ratio's. In Terms of the genre of the ad it is in the hands of youtube to select which ads will pop up for the user. Youtube uses its parent company (Google) to find out which genres you are interested in to then create "personalized" ads. Seeing as Google owns most of the Internet you can't really stay on the web without feeding some tasty info to them in some way or the other. Nothing is free you are just paying for indirectly through being allowed to influence your consumeristic behaviour. Hope that made you all fell better. Cheers

I use AdBlock, so no, I didn't notice. ._.

I used to think adblock was bad, then I had unskippable ads on 5 songs in a row on youtube.

Use adbock.

I forgot to mention Vsauce & Veritasium as other regular channels I watch (though I don't patronise them, I should put Veritasium in the "on the fence" list, and I don't think Vsauce is on Patreon)

For science & education I also watch videos from some of Bradys channels (Deep Sky videos, Periodic videos, Numberphile) but it's only occassionally I check them.

I didn't even notice there were ads on youtube until a month ago. Adblock is a life saver

Adblock plus started allowing ads on youtube because google is paying adblock plus to not block google ads so now I use ublock, no ads at all anywhere including youtube.

Adblock + Easylist.
