Forums - Politics Discussion - Where Is The Human Race Morally Heading?

The core of my belief system is to love all as I love myself and God.

The Gospel teaches that because we are all sinners by those laws in the Old Testament, that it is not our right to judge. It's blatant hypocrisy for a sinner to judge others on their sins. If Jesus has it in him to not only forgive sins, but to accept everyone for who they are, then surely the good thing to do is allow our brothers and sisters, gay or straight, to have equal rights. If two consenting adults love each other, then there is nothing wrong there, and everything right.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

I wouldn't call same-sex marriage a taboo. Its a basic human right, and gay people have been stripped of their rights for far too long.

no they are not, those rules are alot older, and some animals have the same rules.  its basic social behavior, not morals or ethics behind those rules.

people maybe decided to hunt down gays because they fear to end like sodom?

the good thing is, most people are better people than those who wrote the bible.

Human sacrifices used to exist to please gods. They don't anymore but morals based on that thinking would mean that people would be fine with someone being killed for as a human sacrifice. This is how religion can influence modern society, even if we moved beyond such things.

Hmm, pie.

why shouldnt we have the right to judge? we break the laws of the old testament because we are  better human beeings than those who wrote the bible...  we dont need advice if and how we can sale our daughters. or rules about the killing of slaves.

i dont thing we need anyone to forgive us those "sins"

In what justification is marriage a basic human right?

I would say the longer human civilization exists, the longer humans will have to realize that books from thousands of years ago, probably aren't the best compasses for morality (A 4th grader could rewrite the 10 commandments in a more moral fashion).

I disagree that 4th grader could do that. If they are taught nothing but the opposite of the basics of human morality then those are the 'commandments' he would come up with. The reason a 4th grader now knows about morality is those books which are thousands of years old.

Whether we agree with them or not they are the reason much of our social morality exists.

Nope.  Even a 4th grader knows slavery is wrong.  10 Commandments do not.  Nothing about rape in there either.   And btw, civilizations throughout history, with or without religion, have established that murder is bad.  I stand by my original statement.  And even though it's anecdotal, I can tell you as a non-religious person my entire life, from a non-religious family, I learned that rape, and murder is bad, from my parents.

What I mean is, things that should at least be strongly discouraged. Like an "unwritten law", like you can do certain things, but people won't like it. Insulting other religions is rude, and it brings more benefit to both sides if you do criticism of a belief with gentleness. Smoking isn't good for you. Adultery is technically illegal in nearly half of the states, and it isn't good for relationships, and helping other teams is your choice.

All I'm saying is we should ban as few things as possible, even if everyone agrees they are bad.

People should get freedom to make their own choices, but I do think there is a limit. Like, lying is wrong, but I wouldn't make all lying illegal (maybe to some very small extent, but not like a month in prison for lying), but I would want someone to be arrested for certain huge lies, lies that cause people to die, lies that prevent a murder-case from being solved, stuff like that.

Can't wait for The Zelder Scrolls 3: Breath of The Wild Hunt!

Absolute freedom of speech is a core belief of mine, so I won't be able to debate this with you.

I agree. Marriage was an idea backed by the church not just because of the Bible (contrary to popular belief), but also for profit. For the modern government today, marrige is little more than mutual financial benifits under certain regulations and rules. Either way, new laws and "equality rights" will mostly appear when the government sees that they will benifit, be it financial gains or support from the people.
