I agree. Marriage was an idea backed by the church not just because of the Bible (contrary to popular belief), but also for profit. For the modern government today, marrige is little more than mutual financial benifits under certain regulations and rules. Either way, new laws and "equality rights" will mostly appear when the government sees that they will benifit, be it financial gains or support from the people.
